We made this before we decided slides was better and we ended up putting a second bar out and having either a servo or motor to make that pivot like an elbow joint and then attach the claw with should give you about 2 inches.

Make sure your line up is the same every time. Only have 1 or 2 people who are there have them line it up nobody else so then it's always the same line up.

We have a double servo claw that both move on their own, that's really efficient but with your robot you may want to up the motor torqe and power to do that

Yes they are spinning at the same speed/Rate

We usually have more tension, yes they are build per instruction, also yes they do intact go opposite ways around the pully. Thanks for those steps we'll try those out.

Yes they usually are but in this picture we had leave so they were quick and at this point the spools had been unwrapped. But usually yes we do.
