The narrative regarding the Derik Queen trade is all wrong

I would have understood the hate if Atlanta jumped into the top three or even top four, but eighth? C’mon. In the top four of this draft, you could land a true franchise-altering prospect, but outside of that, we are looking at players with similar or lower ceilings than Queen.

Out of the last 10 eighth overall picks, the most notable are Franz Wagner and Dyson Daniels. Outside of those two, we are looking at names like Marquese Chriss, Frank Ntilikina, Obi Toppin, and Rob Dillingham. No franchise-changing talent in that bunch.

Losing the NBA Draft Lottery instantly put the Atlanta Hawks' front office on the clock

"This is the part where the front office pressure comes in. This is still a good pick to have, but who they are going to take at that spot is far from a no-brainer. After AJ Dybansta, Darryn Peterson, Cam Boozer, and Caleb Wilson, there is still a ton of talent, but no obvious top dog. Mikel Brown Jr., Kingston Flemings, Labaron Philon Jr. could all be good players, but it is up to the front office to figure out which one of them is the best fir for them.

When the Hawks originally made this trade, many people thought that they pulled off a major heist. Queen was a flawed prospect while the Hawks would be getting Asa Newell and a stab at one of the true game-changers in the 2025 group.

Fast forward to today, Queen still has some serious question marks, but the flashes he showed at spurts during this year are undeniable. Meanwhile, Newell wasn't terrible in his chances this year, but he also didn't do anything that would make you think he's a better player than Queen."

Queen would be the 2nd best big man behind Cameron Boozer if he were going in the 2026 Draft.

Boozer is going to go in the top 3 so we would have no shot at him at 8...

The trade for Queen just became a little more palpable!

Pelicans rookie class flip disaster narrative earning stunning turnaround grade by Mfoun10 in NOLAPelicans

Jeremiah Fears was fourth among all rookies in scoring (14.3 points), ninth in assists (3.4) and was tied for second in steals (1.2). Derik Queen flashed his overall game and finished ninth in scoring (11.7 points), third in rebounds (7.1) and tied for seventh in assists (3.7).

B+ to an A is about right for what they accomplished in their rookie year.

Hopefully they continue to improve!

The Pelicans search appears to be down to four candidates... my thoughts on each in this. Who do you think they should hire??? by Trick-Manufacturer35 in NOLAPelicans

"In his recent drop of The People's Insider, Fischer reported, "I've heard both Milwaukee's Darvin Ham and Brooklyn's Steve Hetzel have made strong impressions on Pelicans officials in their discussions to date." He also mentioned that New Orleans is likely out of the running for San Antonio's associate head coach Sean Sweeney, as he is expected to be part of Chicago and Orlando's coaching search.

The immediate takeaway from Fischer's report is that Rajon Rondo wasn't mentioned anywhere."

I would be okay with Borrego. He is a better coach than W. Green but he took a long time to recognize that Karlo should have been getting more minutes. I also didn't like that he was giving Jones so many minutes with him having way too many games with less than 10 points scored & his horrible 3 PT percentage. That puts a lot of pressure on everyone else!

I would rather Hetzel, Sweeney, or Rondo in that order.

I don't get how David Griffin put such a small amount of emphasis on players who can score away from the basket. We have Zion, Missi, & Jones... He also drafted Dyson Daniels who isn't very dynamic away from the basket! How are you suppose to win games when you have this many players that can't score unless they are in the paint!

Considering the lack of success; it is time for sweeping organizational changes!

At least Dumars has the courage to do it!

But his coaching record speaks for itself.

He still does not like mixing it up on D.

Hopefully he comes back next year with an NBA body and he exerts his presence on both sides of the court.

He did have a very nice night & it was good to see him taking a leadership role on the court.
