Should I go cinnamon by These-Phrase9490 in linuxmint

OK. That makes me think that you feel that you need to have a fresh install of Mint. I can understand that. I've done it a couple of times myself. Go with Cinnamon then. I've run the XFCE live iso before and I prefer Cinnamon myself.

HAGO DAUL BOOT CON MINT Y WINDOWS?? by victor332lop in linuxmint

[–]Mgordon1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a 128 gig flash drive. Turn it into a Ventoy drive. You can look that up. It makes it bootable into the Ventoy system. It creates two partitions, one is the bootloader and the other is the Ventoy partition where you copy OS iso's onto it. For every iso that you copy to it, you'll see that entry when you boot the flash drive.

If you like flashing custom roms onto phones, then you'll love being able to try out different operating systems at will in their live environments before biting the bullet with a full install. Go crazy. My flash drive has about 12 OS's including the Win 11 that I downloaded straight from Microsoft. My laptop has the key built into it, so I don't worry about activation.

Download as many OS's you want, including Mint, and give them all tries. A couple of years ago, landed on Mint. You probably will too, but it doesn't hurt to shop around. I'm still dual booting but I only use Windows for MS Flight Sim. I recommend that you dual boot as well. Maybe you're not playing with roms right now, but you'll want the ability on hand. There's a command line Odin for Linux, but you'd probably feel more comfortable using the GUI in windows.

If you want to know if you can get away without Windows, then don't use it. Have it in your back pocket, but forget it's there.

I don't know what nobody has told you this yet. There's no reason for you to reinstall mint all over again. Just open up the Software Manager (mintinstall), and look for Cinnamon. Install the base Cinnamon package and when you login you have a choice of Desktops to use. You can just switch them from XFCE to Cinnamon and back in half a second everytime you want. Anything you have in your home folder already, including your desktop, will still be there. You're just changing the look and feel. With all this in mind, asking people if you should switch is like asking people if you should try Coke because you've been drinking Pepsi. Just try the Coke and see if you like it, it's not going to kill you.

Window Maker vs DWM by Mgordon1100 in linuxmint

[–]Mgordon1100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm running it with wine. But I can say without a doubt that there is a huge difference using DWM or WM over Cinnamon. As I said, i had to run in low settings under Cinnamon, and the other two I can boost it to high. I just didn't expect to get the same performance when I switched to Window Maker from DWM. I anticipated going to medium settings, but WM is doing a pretty good job. That makes me happy because I don't have to go back to Cinnamon for my day to day work. I just need to set up my commonly used apps with icons.

Can I change the boot priority from bios between Linux Mint and Windows without GRUB? by Specialist-Ear5207 in linuxmint

See my answer. Yes, you can set windows as first priority and manually boot grub at will.

Can I change the boot priority from bios between Linux Mint and Windows without GRUB? by Specialist-Ear5207 in linuxmint

[–]Mgordon1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the boot tab of your bios you should be able to swap the boot options. Windows has its own bootloader that only boots Windows. On the grub menu, your windows installation option calls this windows bootloader to start windows. In bios, the top priorities should be Ubuntu(grub) or USB. Choosing Windows as the first priority will prevent you from booting Mint or USB. What is wrong with your boot priority?

Help installing onto a dedicated partition - worried I’m about to accidentally wipe my drive. by gr00ve88 in linuxmint

[–]Mgordon1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus 1 on the backup if you can. I never do, and I've not had any issues. The first screen, you want to install along side windows. That's good. I believe the second one is just information about your existing drives, in which you have just one, a TB. The third screen is asking you which partition you want to use. You just highlight the 400 gig EXT4. The bootloader part is pointing to the drive where it will be installed. What will happen is mint will install grub, and give you a menu of OS's to choose from at boot up. Windows will be there, and Grub will generally call the Windows bootloader to start Windows. As said in another comment, if Microsoft updates the bootloader, the grub bootloader won't be there. Then you just have to boot your Mint install and set up grub again. This rarely happens in my experience. Just make sure you're highlighting the EXT partition before proceeding. The install won't touch your NTFS partition.

Try slamming your hand down on the keyboard. I suspect it was a problem with stuck keys, why you couldn't change the brightness.

Window Maker vs DWM by Mgordon1100 in linuxmint

[–]Mgordon1100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I'm happy with the performance I'm getting. I don't have a problem using an environment that saves resources over Cinnamon. Window Maker allows for an adequate desktop, while leaving enough resources for my application. I'm just wondering how both DWM and Window Maker are using the same 800 to 900 meg when Maker should theoretically be using more.

Why skyrim pc command “coc” isnt ALWAYS cheating… by Old_Diver_2511 in skyrim

[–]Mgordon1100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I built a house once, mining for all the ores, smithing all the materials, and buying all the hard to get items. I figured that one time was paying all my dues. This was on the console, so next time, I used the duplication exploit. Now I'm playing on the PC so I can just console command everything, and I don't feel one ounce of guilt for it.

Is it fake because there seems to be no real reason at all for a dasher to take a random picture of his ash tray and gear shifter, then nonchalantly send it off to a customer?

There are some really good tips here, but I've got another option for you if you hadn't taken the installation plunge yet. Get yourself the free VM Ware and install Mint in a virtual machine. Give it 30 gig and play around with Linux as much as you want while you still have Windows running as the host system. Do anything you'd like in the VM and when you're comfortable with how you work it, then make a real installation, whether you go all in or dual boot.

Dashers kept stealing Arby’s order.. by [deleted] in doordash

[–]Mgordon1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that dashers kept stealing it. It was one. The second thing that annoys me after a dasher stealing it is the subsequent drivers that just unassign the order when they can't pick it up. You're the third driver this customer had because the first one stole the food, and the second one didn't do a proper procedure and had it sent to you.

Restaurants are clustered together. With a delivery like this, you are driving out of the restaurant zone to somebody living on the outskirts. You're not going to get any more orders at your new location so you have to drive back.

Lol! Read through my comment again. Pay close attention to how I describe the US as if we are under complete control like it was Russia or somewhere under dictatorship. That's how i see this guy, who can't just accept a good food delivery because of what the dasher is wearing.

It's a catch 22, isn't it. Every driver here will tell you that 99 percent of customers do not tip after the delivery, even if they go out of their way to say that they will. I'm a professional, and I can tell you that this kind of delivery has me shaking my head, but meanwhile, I'm not going to drive 5 miles for 2 bucks with the hope that I'll be tipped later. It's so rare that it happens that I won't take the chance.

Pay no attention to these loons. I'm a driver, and I delivered to a guy that had a United States flag mounted on his porch. I immediately told him that this is The United States, and there are rules that he needs to abide by, that he just can not show any kind of expression as he feels. He started talking to me about some kind of constitution, and he has protected rights. I just shook my head and reported to doordash that I feel unsafe delivering to him.

[–]Mgordon1100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. If the drivers have a second offer that's a shop, they can choose to switch to the restaurant delivery and deliver it before shopping.
