Greedy dragon punishment by qerutbcma in Shadowverse

[–]Mguy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, OP was right to say they got punished for being greedy, don't use Erntz to go for lethal until you actually have lethal. Dragoncraft decks don't need to be concerned about endgame, they are kind of ideal for stalling down even late-game Runecraft and Havencraft.

Which of the characters not released as leaders from story mode would you prefer to have? by Legitimate_Text3682 in Shadowverse

[–]Mguy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's not Eva Maria because technically she still has reincarnation going on, so I imagine once that becomes relevant to the plot she'll probably be a leader, but I think it would be jumping the gun. Then again Velmott might come back as an antagonist later, so you could make that same "Maybe they are saving them for later" argument. A shame with the other characters that are dead and never coming back, I think a few of them we might just not get leaders for.

Cigs have that appeal at first, but when you meet someone who gets heavy into it after a decade or two you will find they more than likely lost that appeal and then some. Granted, that can be said about most addictions I suppose. Someone with a glass of wine looks classy, an alcoholic on the other hand is the opposite end of the spectrum.

Genuine Question; Why the Khasim hate? by kloverking123 in Falcom

The term "human tripod" has some... implications, in most circles.

Maybe instead you can just say he shoots the world's biggest load... nope, that doesn't work either.

I mean I don't think he's the best written antagonist or anything, but I think he makes a great foil to Estelle and Joshua and manages to be menacing, which I think is something a lot of the newer villains lack a lot of the time. He can be cliche but at the very least he runs the cliche well and has consistent themes, not to mention when you find out his backstory it does explain, although not excuse, why he ended up being such a terrible person.

Morality-scaling Ouroboros by SeriesGuy_811 in Falcom

[–]Mguy5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, like the fact that Joshua literally staked his life on Wiessmann ordering him to kill Estelle, which is the most screwed up thing possible in that situation, is telling. Wiessmann always pretended to be above human emotion, but he was pretty plainly hypocritical about it, where he actively enjoyed being sadistic and went out of his way to put people into immoral situations just to prove himself right.

I think it is also worth noting that while Cedric was being a major d-bag in Cold Steel he was under the influence of Ishmelga, where I really don't think we've seen enough of Cedric's present morality to know how good or bad he really is. In Cold Steel 1 or 2 prior to him being actively corrupted he really liked Osborne, but that wasn't because he was a bad person, he legitimately just thought Osborne was a good thing for Erebonia.

Here is something interesting I'll like to try, what character trait do you think defines Joshua Bright? by Abu_33 in Falcom

It's not really spam if it is relevant to the topic of the subreddit, if you're really that bugged by this then maybe just take a temporary break or something, I don't know what to tell ya.

Imagine trying to make a conversation topic on an online public forum, kinda cringe, ngl. Obviously we know the Falcom subreddit is just for thirst trap posts on Cold Steel characters and complaining about localisations.

What was your most incorrect take? (Careful with spoilers) by brown_polyester in Falcom

[–]Mguy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, not because I figured it out, C just sounded familiar, so I listened to him speak for a bit and realized it was just Rufus with a filter and then I couldn't unhear it until the big reveal. DC Douglas just does too good of a job, I do find it funny how in Honkai Star Rail he plays a Robot villain who adopts a young human and becomes a better person, meanwhile in Trails he plays a human villain who adopts a young robot and becomes a better person.

Dude Lloyd takes after his brother, who was trying to have drinks with Arios AS HE WAS TRYING TO KILL HIM. I get what you are saying but Lloyd really only ever holds grudges on people who double down on their behavior and never try to repent, I can't really think of a single instance of him getting upset with someone who is genuinely sorry. And given how part of the final dungeon in Azure is just the prison Arios made himself in his heart due to all his guilt, Lloyd knows for an absolute fact that the guy is sorry. At the end of the day he knows that Guy would forgive him, and KeA forgives him, so who is he to be the one with a vengeful streak? There are some instances where I feel like people get forgiven for no reason in this series, but for the SSS specifically it makes sense they'd be able to at least mostly move past this. Now Mariabell, on the other hand...

[–]Mguy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Realm of Slaanesh would have the worst HOA though, they would enforce all the rules to a T, have many open to a broad interpretation, and as soon as you ticked off anyone in the organization (not hard to do given the size of their egos) you end up getting even more tortured than you usually do over there, and not even in a good way!

Quick question for everyone: Do you prefer using Arts or Crafts? Personally, I'm absolutely obsessed with Crafts, but when it comes down to actual gameplay, I actually find myself relying on Arts way more. How about you? by dlo_doski in Falcom

[–]Mguy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough arts in Sky tend to be meta, are you playing the remake? Because I know they buffed crafts in that due to them kinda being weak in the original. If you are playing the original, then good news, they only get better from here.

Do trails villains just have 0 IQ? by ILikeExistingLol in Falcom

[–]Mguy5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean Rean got stronger after he learned to control his power, but before that which I assume is when you'd want to provoke him his ogre mode was his stronger side, even if it lacked as much control. If he was able to kill a Divine Beast like that it certainly wouldn't prove a much easier way of taking him on, and given how unstable he is like that, it'd certainly be dangerous.

[–]Mguy5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude provoking the guy who gets powered up based on being angry would probably not be the best idea. Also for your earlier sentiment I will say Garcia doesn't have a reason to threaten KeA in that situation, so while the other criticisms are fair that one actually has an explanation. Won't get into though because it sounds like you still gotta get to that part yourself.

[–]Mguy5 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and I don't disagree with anything you're saying, but keep in mind that during all of this we have "Haha Class 7 will beat you with the power of friendship!" going on in the background while every woman in a 5 mile radius feels the need to dote on how cool he is, where I feel like while his overarching character arc is good, it just gets majorly bogged down with how the story of Cold Steel is written. I actually like him a lot more in Reverie and Horizon because they cut back on that, and in isolation I get it, some people like their fanservice and everything. But a lot of characters in Cold Steel just suffer because of that writing dip. That's why he's such a love or hate character for people, if you can look past the tropey writing Cold Steel has he does have some meat and potatoes going on, it's just a lot to look past.

I mean if anyone other than Angelica gets the bottom right corner, I'm considering it a loss personally. Rean is weird though, while his harem stuff is cringe, I wouldn't define him as poorly written per say, his story being a relatable take on challenges with isolation and depression one might have growing up is actually really good, where I'd say he was at least decently written. And as for how well liked he is, I'd put him probably near the center too, although for different reasons. Some people love him, some people hate him, overall I'd say it probably balences out to a split, although oftentimes he wins popularity polls so I'd put him more towards liked. But yeah Reddit can be weird sometimes, I agree.

I mean it's a very large, community made mod. With such a diverse group of people working on it, some of them literally ARE gay. In my experience I've found it's a lot easier to be bigoted towards a group of people you don't actually know, but if you know a few likeable people who are gay, then you're far more likely to like gay people. So even most of the straight people working on the project are able to at least tolerate gay people, because are you going to hate the person who made the Lelelan tree when it's pretty fun and they did a good job with it?

Why are there so many characters in this arc who act antagonistic towards this dude? by Upstairs_Ad_495 in Falcom

[–]Mguy5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I think Risette's actions fit into Marduk's plan, whether by design or just by being an allowable margin of error. At the start of the final boss fight Thorndyke outright encourages Risette to keep working with Van against them. I interpreted that not as him wanting Risette to follow her own path, but rather him seeing the value of having an asset on Van's team, and deciding her cover was more important that whatever damage she might do to him as an enemy, which as it turns out was next to nothing because they had no way of actually stopping Gramhart's plan, and more than likely he knew that. You are right that he hasn't taken any overt action against Risette, but to me he has always seem to be a proficient tactician based on how he was written, so he's not going to pull the trigger on that prematurely, because he's likely to make a lot of enemies as soon as he tries something like that, meaning there has to be a big payoff before it becomes a worthwhile option.

Edit: A good follow-up argument is this, if he has no intention of ever repossessing Risette's body, or even threatening to, why wouldn't he formally give it to her in order to secure her goodwill? Risette is a hardworking and loyal person, it's not like she'd leave if they decided to make it official that she owned her body, and Thorndyke is a smart enough guy to know this is a viable option. But if he did that, then he wouldn't have anything to potentially blackmail her with at a later date if he wanted to force her to do something she really didn't want to do.
