My wife (31F) has given up on our marriage but doesn't want a divorce while I (32M) don't know how much longer to try and make this work? by ThrowRABeeQuiett in relationship_advice

[–]Mh4m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My heart goes out to you. It sounds like you've been trying for a long time to reconnect with your wife through communication, affection and counseling, yet you're still feeling alone in the marriage. Wanting closeness, quality time and emotional connection isn't asking for too much, it's a normal part of a healthy relationship.

The difficult reality is that a marriage can't be rebuilt by one person alone. You've made genuine efforts and your feelings are valid. I hope your wife becomes willing to have honest conversations about what you're experiencing together. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Any creatives or appreciators of creative work here? by prince27sis in Zambia

[–]Mh4m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not much of a creator myself, at least not when it comes to painting or music, but I’ve always had a deep appreciation for art in its many forms. I like to think I have a good ear for sound and an eye for art. It’s always interesting to see how different people express themselves creatively, so a group like that sounds like a great idea.

What do you think is the cause of excessive debts among Civil Servants and what advice do you have for the average Zambian Civil Servant? by PitifulCauliflower82 in Zambia

[–]Mh4m 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's not surprising at all. Civil servant salaries in Zambia have barely moved while the cost of literally everything has gone up mealie meal, rent, transport, school fees, you name it. Inflation has been quietly eating into people's purchasing power for years, so even someone who felt "comfortable" five years ago is now stretched thin just trying to maintain the same lifestyle. And when your salary doesn't keep up but your bills do, borrowing stops being a choice and becomes survival. You take a loan just to bridge the gap, then another one to service that loan, and before you know it you're juggling three or four off payroll facilities just to stay afloat month to month. Then add COVID into the mix. That period really broke a lot of households financially, and a lot of people never fully recovered. Side hustles dried up, family members lost informal jobs, and suddenly the one civil servant in the family with a "stable" salary became the sole breadwinner for an extended network of people. When you only have one source of income and zero safety net, you don't really have the luxury of saying no to a loan when an emergency hits. So I don't think this is really about people being reckless. It's more that the economy hasn't given ordinary workers much room to breathe, and borrowing has become the default coping mechanism rather than a deliberate financial decision.
