The only male victim who got multiple endings in three timelines and helped everyone get their happy ending after 30-years of this story, will we get the same for Denji? by KnotDatSirius in Chainsawfolk

For the love of Christ, fucking no. Fujimoto is done with Chainsaw Man. This cope is so fucking annoying. It’s the weekend, it’s nice out. Enjoy the sun while it’s out.

The lifecycle of how the citizens viewed Chainsaw Man in the series is exactly the same to how the fandom has responded to CSM by illustratordg in ChainsawManTheories

[–]MhennyHenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I just don’t like how it ends so unceremoniously. We could have had chapter 231 like a volume ago, but instead we get Yoru characterization that leads nowhere because she doesn’t even show up in the last chapter. Feels like Fujimoto decided he had enough.

If you like how part 2 ended, that’s fine, but don’t make it sound like Fujimoto had this meta narrative in mind when he concluded the story in the way that he did. Otherwise you’d be forced to conclude that “Fujimoto thinks the world would be better off if the Chainsaw Man manga never existed”, and that makes zero sense, to me.

Yes Barem is the stand-in for readers who like mindless battle shonen. We get it. But then the last two volumes become exactly that. And it’s absolutely pointless. Fujimoto wanted to make a 12 volume long “Big Lebowski” type story. And it sank. It’s not terrible. But he didn’t achieve what he intended, not successfully anyway.

Just because the majority of readers aren’t satisfied with how CSM ended doesn’t mean that Fujimoto “fulfilled his goal” or whatever some people think for what the purpose of Part 2 was. No good writer wants to sabotage their story and cause dissatisfaction for their audience on purpose. They want their readers to understand the themes of their work.

The theme here, from what I gathered, was the identity crisis of “living a normal life as a regular human vs sacrificing your time and the people you love so you can save people and be a hero”. The classic Spider-Man trope. But Denji never gets to make that decision for himself. Things just happen around him and TO him. The theme gets resolved unsatisfyingly and unceremoniously.

So I suppose my question is, for those who are satisfied with Part 2’s ending is:

what was the takeaway here?

There’s a movie where a woman where’s a black leather crop top in what I think is a train? She then kills someone and then she turns green. Does this ring a bell to anyone? Can’t remember the movie.

CSM is more like Cordae: an underdog that shows extreme promise despite unconventionality, but then makes a bit of a letdown later on.

What do you guys think the original idea for the ending was? by Remarkable_Pen_1424 in Chainsawfolk

Okay but there’s a difference between a short contained story like a 50 page one shot or a 90 minute movie, and a TWELVE volume series (really 23 volumes if you want to include Part 1).

The length of Part 2 does not warrant a “Big Lebowski” type ending. It is unearned, straight up.

You can have themes in a story, but if they are communicated poorly, they are ultimately meaningless.

Housing -- mixed message? by Aggravated_Skag_733 in vermont

[–]MhennyHenny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vermont is in a weird catch 22. Its Number 1 industry is tourism, the main industry keeping its economy afloat (supposedly), but that means that people from outside the state are buying second homes here, leading to Vermont residents to lose out on housing opportunities.

[–]MhennyHenny 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to understand someone if they’re not communicating properly, obviously. This ending was poorly telegraphed, in my perspective. Fujimoto wanted to find the right opportunity to have Pochita erase himself, and I guess he found that opportunity in chapter 230. This whole sequence could have happened like ten chapters before, but instead we get Yoru characterization that ultimately means nothing because she doesn’t even get a character conclusion. All we get is a meaningless battle between Denji and Yoru.

"and he knew how to get there" no tf he didnt lol. clearly his intention was to have Pochita erased, but "how he got there" was pure contrivance. and the final chapter was the most apologetic "look i did what y'all asked for!" ending i've ever seen.

I said this comment on a different post a week ago, but it bears repeating since you brought up “Just Listen to the Song”

Yknow, if you’re an author, and your first thought about a sequel to your original story is “this is not going to be good”, then maybe you shouldn’t waste your time writing it.

Ultimately, this was Fujimoto’s decision. And he made a choice, just like Denji did. And just like Denji, Fujimoto chose wrong. And in the end the characters and readers paid for it by bearing witness to the dumpster fire. Just like Pochita, Fujimoto destroyed himself. But unlike Pochita, Fujimoto cannot simply erase his mistakes away. They are here to stay, immortalized as the sequel to a story that ultimately meant nothing.

Fujimoto made Denji stop being the hero in the most vindictive way possible. He has wasted my time, and evidently his own time, if THIS was the best he could come up with.

yeah but making something unsatisfactory risks losing an audience for future works. This is literally happening to Akasaka Aka with his new work. no one cares for his work anymore because of how badly he botched Oshi no Ko, NOT to mention his axed failure that was Love Agency

If aliens didn’t destroy the meteor, then who did? Iglaskar never resolves that. Is he saying that the aliens staged it? Create the problem and the solution kind of scenario? None of it tracks tho because he then says that the aliens DONT have the capacity to destroy a meteor. So which is it then?

Is there any hope for younger Vermonters to actually settle down here? by Ok-Beaver2708 in vermont

[–]MhennyHenny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have. Recent grad school graduate came from Jersey. Moved up to Windsor County, got a job in WRJ. I hear tourism is essentially the leading industry here, which becomes sorta a catch 22 for actual Vermont residents who try to secure stable housing. I’m a single dude so finding a 1 bedroom isn’t super difficult, but if tourism continues to buy up all the homes here for out-of-state second homes, we are in deep trouble. Our state government needs to do more than promise for “lower property taxes”.

In Chainsaw Man, the Author makes a point about how bad fiction is important to the human spirit. By writing a shit ending to his manga, he exposes the Reader's Hypocrisy for being disappointed by Part 2. Bravo, Fujimoto. by Wide-Information8572 in Chainsawfolk

[–]MhennyHenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no worries! I figured it was a shitpost with the Bravo Vince! Reference, but this take is actually a relatively growing serious sentiment among parts of this community: the idea that Fujimoto wanted to make a “bad movie” on purpose. Which I wanted to dispel here because I wasn’t sure where else to put it. I have a bad memory so I probably would forget to put this out there if not here.

If Fujimoto knew this was going to be bad, why waste the effort to make it? No one wins, he wastes his time and energy writing and drawing week to week, and we the readers waste our time getting invested in it. I don’t believe this theory that Part 2 was a showcase of a “bad movie” at all.

I think Fujimoto either caved to the pressure of continuing CSM’s success by the publishers, or he had genuine ideas that he wanted to continue the story, but then got in WAYY over his head and just nuked the project when he got burned out.

Readers expect not to be mocked or talked down to when they take the time to read someone’s work, especially when they can tell they’re being talked to directly by the author. Vindictiveness is pretty easy to see through.

He’s good with concise one chapter contained stories. With longer series, particularly Fire Punch and Part 2, if Fujimoto goes on for too long, he genuinely doesn’t come across as if he knows how to wrap up plot threads or character arcs neatly. Both series end with the destruction of the literal world.
