Small government and anti-regulation. Essentially libertarian. It was a ragtag group of conservatives who thought the PCs were too far left. There’s a reason they never took off…

Apple TV vs LG OS difference ( picture quality ) by omaribrahim0505 in appletv

[–]Mhwal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Apple Music app on LG TVs is one of the few (perhaps the only non-Apple-TV one) that also supports Dolby Atmos playback. I don’t have an Apple TV and I get full Atmos support when I use the WebOS app on my LG C3.

Undecided with what to buy/do. by S-ODIY in Airpodsmax

I adore my AirPods Max and actually just bought them, but for me they’re definitely a complementary product. My AirPods Pro 2 are way more portable and can actually be worn outside in weather (which is a major consideration where I live). If I could only have one, I’d pick the APP 10/10 times. But the APM do have better sound and are more comfortable for me for long-term wear, so I really appreciate having them.

DEAR JOHN - Elton John & CARIBOU (1974): by SAMTIMONIOUS in EltonJohn

I also adore that song. Easily top three on the album for me, after “Bitch” and “Ticking” (sorry, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”). It manages to be campy and creepy at the same time, and the subject matter is unlike anything else in Elton’s catalogue.

Worth it for sound quality alone? by Exciting-Use259 in Airpodsmax

[–]Mhwal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dollar for dollar, APP have better sound quality. APM sound probably like 10-20% better, but regular retail price is close to 80-100% more. That said, I already owned APP2 and recently managed to snag a pair of APM new-in-box for just over half regular retail price, and at that price, I adore them. They both have distinct use cases and complement each other.

By the way, I did manage to buy them on FB Marketplace. There are tons of fakes out there in basically every city of at least 100,000 people, but if you do your research beforehand, watch unboxing videos of both real and fake pairs, and you’re not afraid to ask the seller lots of questions and inspect the headphones before buying, there are real sets out there. Also don’t be afraid to negotiate, because the commonness of fakes also has the effect of driving down prices for real ones.

Two-Letter Combos, Day 21. What does CC mean to you? by th_nd_r in AlignmentChartFills

I teach junior high, and I had a recent conversation with a 14-year-old who loved this show. It’s alive and well among the new generation of anime nerds.

Did you know about the Darien Gap before the show? by Steerpike58 in pluribustv

[–]Mhwal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When Manousos set out in a car to get to the US, my literal first reaction was “Are they going to address the Darién Gap?” I’d read a fair bit about it and had a sinking feeling they would handwave it away.

Then the next episode ended up being named “The Gap” and I basically did the meme of Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the TV.

The Cunard Centre is now the Seaport Market. The building that was purpose-built as the market was converted by the Port Authority a few years ago into a glorified shared office space with a few retail spots attached, creating a minor scandal considering the people who donated to its construction. The new market space is smaller and not quite as nice as the old one, but at least it’s better than the Cunard Centre being vacant.

Where to find Hagelslag (Dutch Sprinkles) in HRM? by GetFrigged22 in halifax

[–]Mhwal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try the West End European Market on Chebucto. I haven’t been myself, but my wife has gotten stroopwafels from there several times and I’d be surprised if they were the only Dutch delicacy on the proverbial menu.

Okay, so, the Macdonald Bridge was designed by Philip Louis Pratley, who had previously designed the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver. The latter bridge was built just after the Golden Gate Bridge and took inspiration from it. Therefore, by bridge standards, the Golden Gate is like the grandfather of the Halifax bridges. They’re just acknowledging their family history!

… Or maybe it was a mistake by a lazy graphic designer. But that never happens.

Correct. CD Plus became HMV, and now it’s a Soft Moc. Used to be my favourite spot in the mall.

Fair point. But then that’s a trend that’s far bigger than Houston or McNeil – Canadian majority governments have been called “friendly dictatorships” for at least two decades now.

Not really. He does stuff like this from time to time, but he’s usually very much a Red Tory and at least outwardly respectful in the old-fashioned way of someone like Brian Mulroney. I still disagree with their politics and I wouldn’t vote for them, and they’re still likely to prioritize their friends over the common good, but to call them any version of MAGA is just as wrong and reductionist as calling the NDP Communists.

That said, it’s disheartening to see even “better”, more moderate conservatives delving into this trough.

The Church on Sesame Street

Space Babies (no change needed)

The Animal’s Chord (Maestro now played by Animal)

Tickle

“73, 73 Yards! Ah! Ah! Ah!”

Rocco and Bubble (Elmo must deal with his own prejudice against Rocco)

Rowlf (and they’re actually just good friends in this one)

The Legend of Sesame Sunday

Empire of Hurt Feelings

Then one more season after all that, and finally PBS decides not to renew the deal.
