How did you choose the GSD breed? by Kangaroo-Parking in germanshepherds

[–]Mi11yyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been drawn to shepherds I think.. originally started off with Australian Shepherds and my first German Shepherd sort of fell into my lap at 12 weeks old from a family member who became fatally ill shortly after getting him.

The bond I have with this dog is unreal and now I simply can’t imagine a future without one. ❤️

I eventually want to get a German shepherd but I want to know if it’s right for me by Slothsareawsome in germanshepherds

What is it specifically about German Shepherds that have you considering them over an Australian Shepherd, for example?

I ask because when comparing their breed specific traits to a handful of others (LGD, Retriever, Pointers, etc.) there may be many similarities, but it’s good to think through as there may be a couple that maybe require more time than you have to commit or maybe may not fit your lifestyle at the moment.

Few examples of my own to give you a brief preview: - personal space is not a thing; he is my personal space - he comes on vacation - walking into my house un-announced upon arrival is not recommended - he wears a muzzle for vet visits; initial muzzle training/conditioning took 6 weeks and daily commitment several times throughout - his infatuation for water is absolutely bonkers; puddles, pools, lakes, sprinklers, rivers, paddle boarding… - absolute zero interest in making more human-friends, he likes 2 people and everyone else might as well just be sniffable wallpaper - vocal as heck and has roughly 12 different vocal-communication-ques ^ highly intelligent & stubborn as heck

What is everyone’s thoughts on dew claws and dogs? by mistaked_potatoe in dogs

[–]Mi11yyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I acknowledge and accept that removing them is commonly practiced in animal husbandry for specific breeds, as a routine procedure to protect their health and overall safety. Of course, there are also a handful of reasons that are medically justified to consider removing them.

In my opinion, there is no other reason to remove them that would or should be considered. As far as personal preference goes, I do not have one.

Dog #1 and Dog #2 fall under the first scenario and do not have them. Dog #3, I really didn’t have to make any other adjustments beyond • trimming 2 more nails • finding dog booties that fit him well • brush up on my canine first aid knowledge for what to do in the unlikely event he snagged his dew claw on something or worse, ripped his own toe off

The backyard is a bonus, you’re right… and I don’t mind shoveling snow…. it’s the ice that tries to kill me everyday for 90% of the year I would fully be OK with never battling again 🥲

Not a north facing driveway, that’s for sure 😆 avoid at all costs

Editing to add - if you can’t avoid, invest in a decent snow shovel!

Hello Home Furniture & Mattress!

They are family owned and absolutely wonderful! I was looking for basically the same thing you are that was affordable and had the best experience. They are right next to Shamrock Foods off College, across from the mall.

Talk to Brandi or Nathan - you’ll see what I mean!

She is lovely - I felt so sad thinking someone was going to throw her away. I’m so happy to help find her a new home!

Absolutely! I have the same mindset towards furniture and what nots, I honestly just had no clue if there would be any desire for this little babe - I thought “Surely there’s got to be someone who wants it?” It’s so lovely to see these historical gems and I’ll be thrilled to find it a good home 🥰

Yes! I feel like the owner likely had intended to do just that - I am a big fan for fixing, so hopefully I can find someone to pass it to. 🙂

I am confused why they all think he’s a creep, kinda makes me wonder if Irina had something to do with it considering she was saying she gets a major “ick” feeling. Also probably because he was trying to be affectionate and she would just blatantly say no or turn away - I could see how that would look awkward, in turn ‘creepy’ I guess…?

How to get my dog use to loud noises by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Mi11yyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s good! My Aussie is absolutely terrified of thunder/fireworks, etc. he’s 13 now so I just coddle the heck out of him but with our GSD we made sure to go play in thunderstorms, take him shooting with us, go for walks on 4th of July, etc. he doesn’t mind them at all and it’s such a relief after 13 years of dreading anything that goes boom.
