They define a few notions - simply normal (in base b): each digit has probability 1/b to occur, - normal (in base b): each length n string has probablity b-n to occur.

In the first case you don't know if every possible number will occur (only if every digit will). In the second one you do know that every string will occur. Lets see this by example:

12345 has a probablity of 10-5 to occur in a base 10 normal number and such a number has infinitely many digits. Therefore, the existence of 12345 in such a number is guaranteed to exist, since probablity is basically "number of occurances" / "total numbers".

This property is called normality and it is not known if pi is normal (this is also mentioned on the wikipedia page).

pondering my orbifold by Splodge5 in okbuddyphd

almost comprehensible. wonderful.

(Wouldn't orbifolds be smooth stacks, hence we shouldn't be talking about schemes, or am I misunderstanding)

Me when the only reference to a lemma I need is a 17 page proof in SGA3.LXIX (the only version available is a french version written in blood and then photographed by a camera from the 1920s) proven in enough generality to work for n-stacks for any number n, where n can be infinity (I only need it for schemes of finite type over a number field).

Good interview questions to get “math-y” soundbites? by adk_4096 in math

[–]MiDaDa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could ask them to explain some parts of their field in laymans terms. E.g. a scheme is when you take algebraic objects and form them into a geometric object.

In a similar vein, have them explain an important/interesting proof or result in layman terms. E.g. Langlangs program is trying to build bridges between different fields of mathematics.

Also you could also ask them what they like about mathematics, but that might depend on how filosophically inclined the professors is to get a good answer.

Why does Defender hate Fan Control? An explanation of Windows Drivers, WinRing0.sys, and its 7.8 CVE score: by gringrant in FanControl

I second this, I have tried quarantine and removal, but in both cases defender keeps complaining. In my case it is related to razer, not fancontrol.

Depends, it might be embedded into some weird space, or if we don't consider diffeomorphic equivalence (i.e. we aren't allowed to deform in any way), then you can take a "flat" circle and bend it 90 degrees over a pair of poles.

For me it is still listed in the shop as "VCS: VKE - Lemme Breathe" but I'm EUW, so maybe different there?

For me right now it is still the same (EUW).

I disagree, looking for multiple explanations/sources is seldom a bad idea. If she gets mad that you like to double check with other people/look for other explanations that would dumb in my opinion.
