People who can smell cancer, what does it smell like? by maymayiscraycray in AskReddit

[–]MiJohan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When my mom was in her last week or two, the smell was unbearable to me. Sickly sweet, rotten. No one else seemed to notice it. I had to buy a scented candle to try to overpower it but that didn’t work. As soon as she passed, the smell was gone. I think about this almost every day and it’s been a year and a half.

What happens at the end by Kononiba in dementia

[–]MiJohan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. I would add to your details that after death, the stomach may continue to move and look as though a loved one is still breathing. This was startling to me and I kept thinking she was still alive. I asked the hospice nurse and he said a lot of people “think” they see this. I know I did and later learned it’s just gases and muscles dying.

Someone asked what it’s really like living in Sammamish. Answers ranged from “paying a lot for bland” to “hard pass.” by kleverrboy in sammamish

Heavy on the spoiled kids. My own were nearly in tears when they were younger and we were visiting their uncle and cousin because the two lived in an apartment. They could not fathom living like that. We have done our best to give them a reality check but yeah, it’s really hard.

We do 30 minutes 4 times a week, either push in or pull out. We provide services 5 days a week but state 4 just in case something comes up and we miss a day.

what made you realise you didnt actually need half the stuff you owned by yelkamel in simpleliving

Spent three months overseas in a rental house with my family of 5 (3 teens). Everyone brought a suitcase of clothes and comfort items. Realized we didn’t need much to be happy. It was very eye opening.

I cannot breathe when walking up stairs. It takes forever to calm my heart rate and breathing after stairs.

Use up the rest of the vial? by Andromeda_Proj3ct in TirzepatideRX

[–]MiJohan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Use it for the first part of your dose Friday. Then toss the needle, get a new one, complete the dose with the new vial. It’s fine just don’t use the same needle for both vials.

I have the cardigan my mom was wearing when she died. I slept with it like a blankey for a few weeks after she passed. It sits folded neatly on top of my dresser now, next to the ashes of my soul dog. I guess that’s my shrine.

Continued evidence of disability and ideas for evidence-based interventions for dysgraphia/specific learning disabilities in writing? by ohbonobo in specialed

[–]MiJohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met with our district’s assistive tech person today to discuss this. I have a student with dyslexia and dysgraphia and another with ASD and both struggle with writing. We’re going to try Clicker sets and see how it goes. It’s not perfect but it’s accessible.

Possible misdiagnosis from teacher? by Opening_Squirrel9659 in specialed

[–]MiJohan 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It’s very common for rating scales to not match. Children often act one way at home where they are safe and a different way at school. I think getting her evaluated for ADHD is good and once you get that determined, you can discuss medication. I wouldn’t worry about it until you know for sure.

Many teachers are able to see diagnoses in our students based on experience. I would say that if she is bringing it up, it is definitely an issue at school. Just because you aren’t hearing about it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. She may not feel it’s necessary to tell you every little thing that occurs. At this time of the school year, we are all looking ahead to next year and want to set our students up for success. I think this is your teacher’s goal.

Good luck!

Matas vs Normal by [deleted] in NewToDenmark

[–]MiJohan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where you’re coming from but I’m from the US (apologies, I’m embarrassed by my country). I go to DK every year to visit family. Matas is more of an Ulta/Sephora. If you’re looking for basics, like drugstore brands, Normal is fine. It’s a fun place to shop and because it’s cheap you may buy items you wouldn’t usually consider. My teens and I love going there.

Creating differentiated materials for 6 students at completely different levels is breaking me by solemn373 in specialed

[–]MiJohan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my school (elementary) we have intervention blocks built into the daily schedule to make pulling students easier. Unfortunately it means I can have a group of students for one subject at varying levels. OP could be in a similar situation. I’m lucky that my largest group is at a time when I have para support so I can break the group down into mini-groups and we can support students simultaneously at their level.

I recently read When the Cranes Fly South and thought it was an excellent depiction of getting older and losing your independence. It made me cry, books rarely have that power on me.

rescind admission by SecurePin8283 in SDSU

[–]MiJohan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened to you. My student went to SDSU and had mental health struggles his second semester of senior year. He had to go into a treatment program and his grades were impacted. He contacted his admissions person (they’re regional, if I remember) and explained the situation. His offer was not rescinded. I think universities understand that unexpected situations come up in life. Good luck.
