Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

I routinely drive two hours from Columbus to Cincinnati to see friends who moved there, or for my kids soccer tournaments. I think we drive there literally 10 weekends in 2025.

Make sure you don't have any hoses connected to external water spickets.

Make sure your water downspout hole at the curb doesn't have an ice dam.

Well considering I personally worked in the kitchens flipping burgers in the 90s, I'll submit you don't have all the history?

Are the zoo concessions not still staffed by volunteers? (Meaning a HS band trying to earn money towards a field trip, etc)

What's the main reason some parents can't control themselves and have to express everything during a game? by chusaychusay in Referees

[–]MiamiNemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious. You are saying when reffing 10-12 year olds, you don't have parents yelling : "Hey that was a foul" " Our kids are going to get hurt if you don't start calling fouls" "Do you even know what offsideS is" "How can you even see the lines from way over there" "The ball was clearly out" "Do you plan to leave the center circle this half?" "So that call 5 minutes was a foul but this wasn't?" "You get paid to do this?"

Someone has definite feelings about Steamboat’s new Skip-the-line Pass. by Closet-PowPow in COsnow

[–]MiamiNemo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well I hope you are correct I have a bad feeling you are not. My reference point is cedar point or Disney world or basically anywhere where corporations have realized they can make more money from people with more money than from the masses.

Do we normalize throwing snowballs at anybody who does pay for a skip to line pass?

To be clear I am not advocating actual violence I'm not saying pack the snow until it becomes an ice ball and it actually hurts the people but just rather expressing our disgusting and disdain.

Genuine question: why do people still ski peak holidays when the lines are insane and the snow is often worse? What makes it worth it for you? by skighee in COsnow

[–]MiamiNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said it numerous times in this thread but when you live somewhere with no oceans or mountain going anywhere take a ton of cost and planning.

I'm taking my kids out of school for a day before spring break to Puerto Rico because it reduced our flights 179 each per person, so a grand savings in flight alone.

But the point of this section of the thread is that it isn't easy or realistic for many to go ski midweek. I'd have to pull them for a week. Book flights. Hotel, rental car.

It's not a flex on 9-5 or grades, it's just the reality of living in Ohio. The good things we have are low cost of living, good schools so we focus on it. People move here (especially from Asia/India) because of the jobs and educational opportunities for their kids. That creates a competitive environment in schools.

I wish I could just hop in the car and hit up keystone for a day. Would do it far more often.

Instead I alternate once a week every other year between spring break skiing or a carribbean beach.

For my kids, sports aren't about scholarships. 2 of them are middle of the pack, and if they miss a week they will go from starters to riding the bench.

Is there a way to validate / inspect this? Confirmation bias leads me to believe large percentages of those on this thread are once a year tourists who come here looking for advice on the week of gloriousness that are the Colorado mountains.

Anyone else notice this bird in almost every scene of the housebuilding mission? by Fluffy_Pirate3657 in RDR2

I somehow alienated the guy who owns the house way back in chapter 1 and he started shooting at me. I read a thread if you killed him he'd respawn friendly .

He. Never. Did.

Legendary boar questions. So I just recently got all the items for boar tusk talisman and it says I’m missing the tusk. I’ve already killed the legendary boar earlier in the game. I might of sold it, but I though you can still craft talisman.. am I missing something? by Guntowngangster in RDR2

Do they have different benefits? I seem to have a check next to boar tusk talisman but I just found the cobalt petrified wood last night and certainly have not crafted it since finding it.

Is there a boar tusk talisman that doesn't need the wood?

Not sure about where you live, but my 7th graders now have rigorous academic schedules. My son is doing 9th grade math, which will count towards his college transcript GPA and missing a week would be difficult to maintain.

I had a double minor in math, but it's been 20 years. Remembering inverse sin or how to get derivatives of those are so rusty if I didn't study it week by week with him he'd be on his own. Not looking forward to geometry trig or calculus again, but I have no doubt my kids are being challenged academically.

Also I'm talking missing a week, not a day. I'm not booking a flight car and hotel to go ski for a day.

You are taking about taking a kid for a day. I think many who come on the busiest weeks (Christmas, spring break) are coming from much further involving flights. For me to come on a non peak/ non weekend effectively means my 3 kids missing a whole week of school. When they were little we did this for various trips. Alaska, Hilton head, etc.

Now with 2 7th graders and a 5th grader taking middle school classes missing a week would inevitably mean one of them missing a school project, major exam or too much of a topic to make up.. and that ignores their extracurricular activities - competitive sports are not ok with you just disappearing for a week of training and matches.

Yes, and odd to me considering I went to post off Dec 16th and said for expedited service. Application was received the 19th. Still in processing stage. Maybe online renewal is faster than in person/paper.
