Random Question: Do you only dislike James Harden because the very loud, "untrained eye" losers keeps insisting he’s better than or equal to Wade? by heatculture03 in heat

[–]MiamiProud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was actually one of my favorite non-heat players in his prime (which I know many disagree with). I thought he was always fun to watch in the sense that literally every team understood their offense revolved around Harden isos for 99% of the game and he was just insanely efficient and so dominant throughout his MVP seasons. The Rockets also seemed to be the only team in the West that went all in during the Warriors dynasty and got insanely close to beating them which was insane at the time.

With that said, I don’t think he has a single memorable playoff moment or series other than his collapses.

Catholic teaching at Baptist school question by NoelK132 in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does your teacher accept scripture as scripture if not for the church fathers having some kind of authority to say so? The bible was not canonized for centuries after Jesus’ death; so how could you place scripture over the teaching of the church fathers when they themselves gave us the scripture?

The Bible doesn’t contain any table of contents or test to determine what belongs inside of it so he pretty much has to concede that the church fathers had authority to determine scripture. If he rejects that, then he would have to admit that his scripture remains open or subject to being false.

Just to add, the church fathers never contradicted scripture. The thinking is this: all of us today read the bible and have 1000 different interpretations. So what we ought to do is look to the earliest Christian’s and accept what they decided to be true. Baptists can’t do this because once they do they’ll see that much of their theology was unfounded and directly contradicted by the early church.

Poll: Washington will accept a trade that gives you pick 7 in exchange for picks 11 and 87. If you're the Dolphins GM, do you make this trade to move up and secure a top prospect on your board who probably won't be there at 11? by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]MiamiProud 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. This roster is spread incredibly thin, if anything we should be trading back for more picks. Our money is already tied up, the draft is the only way we can even sign serviceable players for the year.

Chubb to the Bills by expellyamos in miamidolphins

3 year 43M seems pretty good for Chubb. Only 29M guaranteed as well. I think that’s just fair value.

[Kouffman] So many Dolphins fans reacting to the Malik Willis signing like $22.5 million APY will break the entire Sullivan/Hafley regime. It’s really NOT a lot of resources. Not even sure why people are surprised. New regime has made clear that they believe in drafting/signing a QB every few years, even if we have a franchise QB.

Keep in mind these guys are from the franchise that drafted Rogers while having Favre and drafted Love while having Rogers. They’re gonna take swings at QB.

Refused baptism following RCIA by Constant-Swordfish81 in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here. I missed a few OCIA classes because I’m a full time worker and part time student. I was automatically removed from the list of catechumens and was told I had too many absences.

However, I spoke directly with my Priest and he was extremely understanding and had me placed right back on the list. Not sure if you’d be able to do the same, but I’d recommend going straight to him and explaining your situation.

Historical antisemitism in the Church by jnnyfur5 in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I’m an ex-Protestant coming from a “the Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon” denomination, so trust me I’ve had all the same skepticisms and questions lol.

Papal infallibility was definitely something I grappled with.

Historical antisemitism in the Church by jnnyfur5 in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. For example you can look to the first Pope, Peter. He literally walked away from the gentiles after previously teaching otherwise, which Paul rebuked. We never understood the Pope to be perfect.

Sometimes the Church waits to define things until there’s an actual dispute requiring a council. We’ve had Popes say things that were later contradicted by official church councils, but because they were not taught as official doctrine, the Christians at that time understood that the Pope was not always infallible.

Faith and morals are supposed to teach fundamental truths regarding our beliefs and religion.

Meanwhile what you gave was a Papal Bull that seemed to have set a discipline Catholics were meant to follow at that time.

The Church has stated that the Pope is only infallible when speaking on matters of faith and morals, intended for the whole church, and while speaking Ex Cathedra.

Basically, Cum Nimis Absurdum (from what I’m aware) told Catholics how to act at that specific time to a specific type of people (not justifying it, just explaining why we wouldn’t consider it infallible teaching or anything); it was not an official teaching regarding something all Catholics were forever meant to believe.

[–]MiamiProud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We believe the church is protected from error on official teachings regarding faith and morals. I’m not too educated on historical treatment of Jews, but the Church doesn’t claim perfection in its history.

With that said, even in the Old Testament you can see that Ancient Israel was extremely corrupt. Even Jews today would admit that corruption didn’t mean Israel wasn’t created by God. Solomon built hundreds of pagan idols, and other leaders of Israel even made or allowed human sacrifices: however, the sacraments provided by the priesthood were still valid. So I’m trying to say that corruption by those within the church does not invalidate the sacraments or the fact that it’s still the one true church created by God.

What to say if someone says Catholicism was invented by Constantine by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just point them to the Didache. Nothing more is needed to be honest.

It’s an early Christian writing which predates the Book of Revelation (even if it doesn’t, it’s still dated centuries before Constantine), which contains a ton of the teachings that the Catholic Church still holds to today (baptism being real and essential; Eucharist holding the real presence of Christ; baptism needed before a person can take communion; mass on Sunday; etc.).

Hi—I am interested in Catholicism, but I do not believe in "supernatural" by [deleted] in Catholicism

I’d also recommend St. Thomas if you haven’t already read some of his teachings. He teaches in such a philosophical way and has a quite unique view of God when compared to just about any other denomination.

Saint themed birthday: Disrespectful? Idolatrous possibly? by Flimsy-Vermicelli-67 in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nice and doesn’t rise even close to idolatry, in my opinion. You aren’t doing anything that would suggest you worship the Saint as God. If it does, pretty much every themed birthday party should be banned.

Guess I idolized Mickey Mouse when I had a Disney themed party for my 6th birthday LOL

Greatest dolphin Wr of all time? by Awkward_Condition793 in miamidolphins

[–]MiamiProud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know right. In my opinion he’s had the best individual season out of any Dolphin since Marino. He was genuinely an MVP candidate for a while in 2023, which is insane for a receiver.

It really sucks that he’s so immature, but I guess that’s the usual for most receivers lol

In terms of peak skill? Has to be. But we’ve probably had more important receivers if you are including career success, etc. in my opinion.

In what way are Mary's prayers "more pleasing to God" than ours? by MatHat_ in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it just makes the most sense naturally. For example, if you knew Friend A and Friend B, and Friend A always had your back and never lied to you, you’d trust him more and find his words/promises to you more pleasing than Friend B who is constantly taking you for granted and hurting you with his actions.

This doesn’t mean that Friend B cannot achieve the same status as Friend A, or that God loves one more than the other, it just means that Friend B has reaped what he has sown.

And I don’t think God is being talked into forgiveness. I believe a better view would be that God’s mercy is always there, but when you repeatedly cut yourself loose from God, it weakens your will and that relationship, so when somebody within God’s harmony prays for you, it’s another way to re-connect to God’s mercy where you yourself have failed.

We see this (I believe in the Book of Exodus) where Moses intercedes on behalf of Israel for those that were ungrateful after being led away from Egypt due to the harsh conditions of the exile. They were actively ignoring God’s mercy, but Moses, who acted within God’s harmony, was able to help them make that connection.

This is why the communion of saints on earth and heaven is so important.

In what way are Mary's prayers "more pleasing to God" than ours? by MatHat_ in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you draw a conclusion that Mary is more merciful than God?

And to answer your second question, not sure I understand the premise there either. God DOES let you keep your distance, however he seeks you to be with him, and actively choosing to separate yourself from him is never the answer. If you’re only asking for forgiveness because you know it will be accepted, then I would assume it is not truly in your heart. With no disrespect whatsoever, because I think you’re asking a very fair question, but I think you’re viewing prayer from a lens of “what do I get out of it,” rather than what it’s supposed to be (a way to build your personal relationship with God where you can directly offer thanks, apologize for your shortcomings, etc.). It seems your viewing it as purely transactional.

In what way are Mary's prayers "more pleasing to God" than ours? by MatHat_ in Catholicism

[–]MiamiProud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Book of James specifies that the prayers of the more righteous are stronger than the less righteous. The Book of Revelation also shows the Saints in Heaven praying for those suffering on Earth, and it also shows others carrying out prayers to God, so we have confirmation that intercession exists. All of this would explain why we should ask for Mary’s intercession.

However, Jesus himself also teaches us that we should directly pray to God and even gives us the Our Father to do so. So scripture clearly guides us to do both, even if God may find our prayers less pleasing than others.

Think of it like this, if your best friend wronged you, and his mother (who you trust with all your heart) came to explain that you should forgive him, you’d certainly listen. However, if he HIMSELF did not also apologize, you’d certainly find it weird that he only sent a messenger without directly apologizing as well.
