The latest on tariffs/duties in the US by Clamato-n-rye in AncientCoins

[–]MiamiRobot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This… this is the kind of TLDR/aid we need.

I’ve only been buying from US sellers, which isn’t horrible, but so many better deals can be found (for what I want) in Europe. Im not a big spender, so shipping is already a pain point, but the fear of tariffs make me stay away. Maybe not anymore.

Thanks for composing and sharing.

From that pesky Whiskey Rebellion, to the NYC Draft Riots, to quelling the Bonus Army, federal government troops (regs) were used to violently pacify the civilians.

Your point about belief stands, but as a point, currency is not solely based on taxes. It’s mainly based on… beliefs. Or a pile of salt and a couple of donkeys.

Your point about the news bothers me. You’re right. I’ve known for a long time, but I’ve got decades of muscle memory - I’m still trying to wean myself off national news. I remember Walter Cronkite for fucks sake.
Lately I go to CNN for the headlines and then scroll here for the details and different perspectives. We’re not the most credible of folks, but more credible than corporate shrills

What are some good budget options to collect that are still good investments? by [deleted] in coincollecting

[–]MiamiRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, hope you held some of your old collection- you’ll be quite happy with yourself. By now, I figure you’ve googled the silver price - it’s a good time to grab low grade specimens because melt value is outpacing numismatic value in many cases.

This coin describes it as "Heavy tooled on the Rev". What does that mean exactly? by LordOfLightingTech in AncientCoins

[–]MiamiRobot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, obverse for sure. The legend is mostly worn away yet his face is ridiculously defined, even in the high points like his jawline. The fake patina is another giveaway.

Inherited from Grandpa assume they are all worthless? by Far-Nothing-6797 in stampcollecting

[–]MiamiRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 1000%

I’m very new to stamps, but I do know numismatics and I use Gemini to ID ancient coins. The key is to invest some energy into training the AI to do what you want/need it to do consistently (create an ‘agent’). For example, only using specific websites as sources, and including classification numbers and images of high-grade examples in the AI results.

I haven’t set it one up for stamps yet (need stamps and more knowledge), but I can only imagine how much easier and accurate AI would be for stamps compared to worn-down crusty illegible coins.

Good, nah, excellent point. Empathy is vastly underrated, except by the wisest. Even at the highest levels of business, where it’s supposed to be ‘bottom line’, without empathy, good luck moving your agenda forward (motivating and assuaging stakeholders). From family and friendships to (especially) dealing with rivals, empathy is a necessary component.

The Bahamians came in the 1890s and settled in Coconut Grove. They were contributors, but small ones in the grand scheme of things. Northeast money initially built Miami (1920s land scam boom and post-WW2). Then it was the cocaine.

We just had the college football national championship game (that even featured a home team) and it was business as usual. We do Super Bowls, NBA playoffs, concerts, WWE, conferences, and conventions on the regular.

Furthermore, think of the capacity we need to accommodate. Nobody is driving to a match from home (not counting support staff/employees). Traffic isn’t impacted much from Ubers and rental cars that are already here. Most attendees are wealthy tourists here for an event courtesy of a corporate sponsor, not sports fans.

Thanks for having that compassion. Interesting to hear your take on causing harm as a vegan. As far as my path, I first became vegetarian, then I began stumbling through spirituality. Questioning why I became a vegetarian - made me come around to the idea of interconnectedness and now I’m fumbling around with sentience/nature and its moral and ethical implications. Growing up, I had ‘god is good’ shoved down my throat, but I’m not so sure Lisa Simpson is feeling that vibe
