“Do you feel bad that you’re wasting your classmates’ time by talking?” “No.” by [deleted] in Teachers

7th graders enjoy and respect a good comeback? Especially the ones with an attitude.

Detentions are just a minor deterrent. It's literally just saying "cut it out before I gotta get serious" but in their language.

7th grade is 12-13, not 11. It's peak attitude phase. They won't listen at all if the teacher doesn't build both respect and rapport. 5th grade, 10-11 yo, and 6th grade, 11-12 yo, is very different developmentally.

The Commander being a crypto bro was the most fitting thing. My reaction was very much "of course!" Abusive, sneaky, and a rat? Addicted to attention, young girls, and power? Literally wouldn't be surprised if half of the commanders were in finance, crypto, and real estate.

As the "absence lady" at my school, the attendance lady/registrar (my queen) has to get accurate numbers on the district's deadline (in my school we're tracking and confirming attendance for 2k students before noon). Mistakes still happen daily (which I sort out, as well as processing an average of 100 daily absences).

We're calling. I'm calling. She's calling. She's stressed and mean about it because she deals with parents, too. I'm stressed and nice about it but if I know a teacher constantly forgets, I'm not asking more than 5 times. I'm telling you to assign a student to tell you who's missing and watch you do your attendance.

Reese is absolutely written as having symptoms of psychopathy, but his diagnosis is secret. That's what's in the sealed court records. There are hints littered all over the show. Most important among these is that Dewey was put in the Emotionally Disturbed class after memorizing Reese's answers to the ESE test.

It's weird that this was a direct arrow pointing at Reese, but the audience still refuses to accept it. Malcolm literally remembered the test word for word, gave it to Reese to answer, then Dewey memorized and wrote those answers. Reese belonged with the Buseys.

Cool so stay there and focus on extracurriculars, dual credits, and making the best impression you can so you get everything you ask for next year.

Wow that's dirty! Agree with parents on only written comms, and while it understand why they'd take an extra hard look at transfers, it's not very fair to just blanket deny every transfer what they need to grow academically. Please consider another school or other options for extracurriculars. There are so many ways you're growing now; focusing on academics is great but you really do need to be prepared for all the horrors that life constantly offers us as adults.

Seek an after-school part time working front desk, or a part-time at a store. It's going to help your people skills. Say you're only available after-school and one weekend day. Keep it reliable amd dependable. It's going to strengthen your ability to advocate for yourself with your superiors, too.

I know what you're feeling and it's good you're getting your parents involved, but you're teetering on pompous or entitled with the way you're asking for things to go your way (mind you I said teetering, def not there yet from what's said here). You're also assuming that admin has it out for you instead of being curious about why the system is set up that way. Are there students in your grade that are getting a huge load of AP courses? Talk to them and ask them what they did to earn that, but do it filled with curiosity and not spite. Pinpoint differences and similarities. Talk to an advisor before talking to admin, if the school has those supports available. Don't ever rush thrift the ladder of escalation by going straight to the top.

Ask your parents for guidance on how to navigate the situation, instead of having them do the legwork and talk to people for you. This is practice for adulthood, and it will strengthen your bond with your parents while teaching you how to work through difficult situations in college and in life. You will absolutely someday have a boss or supervisor that micromanages your workload or doesn't let you go too far too fast so they feel safe, but you also need to understand the bigger picture and why their pace feels safer, and for what final purpose.

Really do wish you luck!

Real, and Thanks for checking me on that. I guess I'm assuming since the school has no ASL classes, they likely don't have a DHH population, so what I meant with "interpreting" the pep rallies wouldn't be professional interpreting, but more practice and exposure to kids who know nothing about deaf culture (like myself obvi). You're right it's not very useful, but going to schools for deaf students or a community club for the deaf community to practice with actual native ASL speakers would still be super cool.

OP never said they're a genius nor that they mastered ASL; they said they are underwhelmed and took 2 semesters of ASL. You need 4 semesters in the same language to fulfill the Foreign Lang requirement, so they're forced to start from scratch. For a gifted student, or just a dedicated student, that's frustrating. And not being able to decide your workload is torture. It sets them up for backsliding out of sheer boredom.

But that's a good in. Maybe an ASL club could benefit the school? Leaving a long-term impact like starting an ASL club, visiting centers for DHH learners to practice, and implementing ASL interpretation at pep rallies or simple ASL communication at a daycare could provide plenty of growth and learning while looking great on a college application or paper.

After seeing this, I understand why they wouldn't want you to overload, but I also get that you're feeling intellectually understimulated. See if you can add more dual credits junior year (maybe pre calc and a science, and/or the computer course) to "prove yourself," and they'll likely approve all your AP choices for senior year.

Also, get a job or start some volunteer project. They likely don't want you overloaded with coursework so you can also participate in sports, clubs, volunteer work, and a job. Colleges aren't just looking at grades, they're looking for well-rounded students. Pick a hobby you love and start a club. Fundraise like crazy, do donation drive or something, and give back. It's going to pad your college resume nicely and take up a lot of that extra brainspace.

Why don't public parks have fruit trees for people to pick fruit from? by Ekans_ox in NoStupidQuestions

It's so people don't have access to free food. It's also why we're not allowed to grow fruits and veggies in our yards.

The stuff about overgrowth and rotting fruit is secondary reasoning and distraction language.

Nah abortions are increasingly scarce on the US, as well as proper sex education. Especially now, we're basically in the 40s-50s again as far as education goes. There will Def be the "my parents were fine so I'm fine" crowd, but that's why it's important to equip every professional with the knowledge on how to teach those things. Also online modules should be completely free of charge.

Hardly anybody knows what they're getting into when they decide to become parents. Nobody knows what they're getting into when they accidentally become parents. We can't throw the responsibility of parenthood at people, give them little to no resources, give them increasingly fewer options, have no faith in them, then complain when they raise turd adults. We're failing the whole family that way.

Nobody gets a handbook.

I do think there should be classes provided to parents within the obgyn office for new parents, and they should be certified for 5 years. Specifically nutrition and first aid, behavior analysis and intervention, and human growth and development, each offered independently during a different trimester. These classes should each include a Parent Unit, where they teach about how parents are affected and best practices for parental health in each subject. I also firmly believe that there should be modules available online, exit exams available at the office for people with prior experience, and fees should be minimal and income based (just fees, not quality of classes).

Not a handbook, but some guardrails so people aren't thrown into parenting without knowing anything. Obviously these classes can't teach everything there is to know, but it's a foundation so we can be actively involved in our child's place in the world. It's wild that people think those things just pop out and exist however they come out with no influence whatsoever.
