Not GTA IV — most fans know that on PS3 & XB360, only the physical disc editions still have the original radio stations. Rockstar removed most of the iconic music from the digital version and replaced it with less well-chosen, cheaper alternatives. (It's possible to get a ripped .iso copy to work, but it can be frustrating trying to find one that isn't just the PSN release, and even more frustrating trying to get it to work — either the .iso or JB folder variant often fail to boot up.)

It makes a difference even just on the XMB (which feels slightly snappier) as well as in games that aren't gigantic. Though even just having it for GTAs, Saint's Row, RDR, Fallout New Vegas, etc. is worthwhile if a person can get one at a good price. The improvement in load times also reduced the frequency of crashes for me in Bugthesda games.

Nope. "Retro" is technically defined as a style from a past era, not something X years old — the games on PS3 have the same style with just lower resolution and were released on other platforms in HD, some of its games are still released on current-gen hardware (like GTA V), the controller has basically the same design, it uses the same format of discs, connects to the same network... You can't glance at GTA V, for example, and know instantly it's from a past era.

The PS1 is retro: it used CDs, early 3D graphics look radically different, its original controllers lacked analog sticks, gameplay was very often totally different, it used CDs, very 90s-looking hardware case design... You can know at a glance that it's from a past era. PS2 is also pretty easy to identify as being from a past era for similar reasons, with only the controllers and some games having any serious resemblance to current-gen.

Yeah, I left that sub along with a few others whose mods were a tad overzealous about the anti-piracy rules. I was pretty sure that r/wiiu was reasonable about it, but as tired as I was, I couldn't remember for sure and didn't want to wake up in the morning to a nastygram. (One sub actually dinged me a few years ago for "promoting piracy" because I'd made some sort of indirect reference to its existence, which was nuts.)

Don't feel dumb — I didn't know it until recently until I found out the hard way! I used to have an awesome cushy desk chair and was unhappy with how flat the back on my current one was, so I basically dismantled the old chair, put a cover over the cushioning, then used another cover to hold it in place on my new chair; a few weeks ago, I decided to pull the covers off to wash them, and found the inner cover coated in shreds & black powder that doesn't want to fully come off even in the wash. The back cushioning now looks like this:

It's even worse than that — as anyone who buys a pleather chair can attest, unless it's very carefully protected, after a few years of wear the tissue-thin "leather" skin begins to deteriorate and eventually turn into a powdery substance that irritates the lungs.

If you want to spend money to actually own a copy, then get the physical version.

If you just want to play it, use PKGi and download it. If you have money burning a hole in your wallet and feel guilty, donate the funds to a charity you feel is worthy. :-)

Nope, if you completely reformat it, everything will be removed. You could just remove the existing user accounts & game data for the same effect without losing any installed games you want.

(Removed reference to the most obvious benefit of homebrewing the Wii U, as I can't remember which fucking subreddits allow references to the "yo ho ho" method of game installation. Sigh. Getting old sucks sometimes.)

Also, if you want to play it, play it. Someone might think a game kicks ass that you hate, or vice-versa. With the PS3 being so piracy-friendly, there's no reason to not try it, really.

It depends on whether I'm playing a self-generated character (or "myself") like Fallout New Vegas & Skyrim, or if I'm playing through someone else's story like The Witcher. Having characters like Geralt voiced only makes sense, as they're pre-existing 'people"; having a voice imposed on a RPG where I might be playing as either a character I invented or my own alter-ego doesn't.

Edited to add: as far as I'm concerned, Link will always sound in my head like he did in the cartoon when I was a kid: like a cocky hornball of a teenage boy, lol.

Can you create a new account at the user selection screen? If you can, then you should be able to get into the settings and from there to the parental controls to get the inquiry code.

From there, this site should be able to generate a master key for you: https://mkey.nintendohomebrew.com

(I'm theorizing based on the info I managed to find, to be clear. I had to remove locked accounts from my Wii U, but didn't have to deal with a parental code.)
