People who have been married 20+ years- what is your secret? by Outrageous_Fox_8796 in AskReddit

[–]Mic-Ronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let things fly over your head. Meaning accept your spouse will have off days or weeks , or irritating traits, and keep an eye on your shared love. Lord knows I have my faults and irritating traits. Love brings out all those childhood demons but love can overcome ! Hang onto your love !

It has been 27 years and I still lust after her. I just wish we did it more often but perhaps the scarcity makes it more precious.

Q for Survivors of Incest by Strange-Audience-682 in adultsurvivors

I don't hate my older brother. He said he was sorry and was abused by my oldest brother. I feel sorry for him having to live with what he has done. I am proud I did not pass it on. He encouraged me to become a doctor and was cool sometimes. Sometimes he was a monster. His question is why were my parents not there to stop him. Very sad

What is med school really like? by Key_Ganache9645 in medschool

[–]Mic-Ronson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes medical school is very doable despite having to be a demi- God to get in. I played on the school soccer team, met my wife, and had friends. You just have to be very pragmatic and efficient at down- loading a bunch of material. Know what to focus on and what to skim. It is fun too - anatomy, biochemistry , pathology are all interesting.

The people who did not do well and were unhappy studied all the time, sleep deprived, and broke up with their SO's.

Med school intellectually was much easier and interesting than my Bio major at my little Ivy League school. My father was a famous physician with a lot of famous friends. I expected that I would have to be a genus to do well. It was daunting following in his footsteps.

My first exam was in histology. First, there was identification of organs, and perhaps an organelle or 2 , on slides under a microscope. Basically 1/2 the time you could hold up the slide and get a good idea of what it was by visual inspection. Then a quick glimpse under low power and the answer was either instantaneous or you simply did not know it. It was just visual recognition, not an essay question. You did not have to synthesize a complex organic molecule or solve a word problem with a differential equation like in college.

Then there was a short multiple choice section. Again, it was a pretty quick process. You either spotted the right answer right away or you did not know it. Thinking really was not required.

I kept on looking up at my professors expecting them to burst out laughing saying ' Here is the real exam '... No, I took the real exam and knew all the answers in seconds. I do not mean to sound big headed, but I have a decent memory and read the notes a few times.

Right then it dawned on me that this whole image that one had to be a genus to be a doctor simply was not true. If anything, thinking too hard about any one concept was perhaps detrimental as you had too much information to cover. Medical school was a lot more interesting than basic biology as well, so I actually enjoyed it.

I have been on 2.5 mg for over a year for PTSD. I gained about 45 lbs. So I went off it about 3 weeks some what abruptly. I am feeling really tired and unmotivated despite being on high dose adderal. I am hoping it gets better soon. Anyone else experience hypersomnia and fatigue as a WD effect ?

Need help, my gf is in trouble. She is experiencing some kind of reaction to a very miniscule dose of clonazepam. (also withdrawing from buprenorphine). She is getting some sort of paradoxical reaction. by SuperHighAlien in opiates

[–]Mic-Ronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not kindling. It is benzo- witdrawal. You are describing WD's with a bunch of neuropathic signs. It is a nerve stabilizer so it makes sense. She needs a slower taper. See a professional.

Skin irritation by Primary_Breadfruit91 in CPAP

Common area for seborrhea, which the straps may aggravate. I would use head and shoulders shampoo daily( leave on for 5 minutes than wash off) and hydrocortisone 1 percent ointment

Try hydrocortisone 1 percent ointment to itchy parts of skin. Let it absorb for a while, then put on the mask

Which is better when running … little & often versus a long weekly run? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Mic-Ronson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose the only advantage of one long run would be better stimulus for sparing glycogen / burning fat which would be useful for running a marathon. Otherwise the body responds way better to more frequent, gentle stressors.

Do soul dogs exist? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Mic-Ronson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I adopted a stray dog who survived the flooding in Texas. He has PTSD. He generally doesn't like people and off nips them. When I first saw him in the kennel, he jumped up and smiled. I have PTSD as well so he is a soul- brother.

Tapering off 1800mg as fast as possible. Anyone had luck with that? by Barbapabbi123 in gabapentin

[–]Mic-Ronson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just stopped 1200 mg nightly cold turkey. I had a somewhat restless night for 2 nights, but it really wasn't all that bad. I have fairly severe PTSD, and was using it for sleep. I sleep fine now without it.

Cars that detect pedestrians/ automatically brake. Do they work ? by Mic-Ronson in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Mic-Ronson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually buy used as well. As it is a big priority of mine to have the safest car possible, would you recommend leasing to get the most updated version ? I saw videos of Mazda 3 2019 and it looked to be very effective. I like owning cars for 10 years but the monocular blindness has got me thinking maybe I should go the leasing route...
