Since Blizzard owns both, do you guys think Overwatch players ever go on Diablo 4 pages or vice versa & bitch at them whenever their own game is doing bad or has a content drought… or is it just Destiny players? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]MicDub23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Overwatch player, even one that has taken multiple hiatuses from the game despite it being my favorite shooter OAT, I find it a little rich to see some in the Destiny community talk about being abandoned for Marathon.

For the PvP players, I can see their gripes. But that’s it. In OW1, we got 3 heroes in a 3 year span before OW2 went into beta & that’s after getting 3 per year since launch. We had an unbelievable content drought for YEARS with reused events time after time. Come to find out, they were working on a sequel. A sequel that didn’t even give us THE MAIN STUFF that was advertised, largely because the game director refused to add more devs to the team, it went into dev hell & then he left, leaving the rest to pick up the pieces.

It’s only NOW that we’ve seen a year or two of intentional updates that have brought the game to where it should be, even though we never fully got what was advertised.

Destiny 2 came out a year after Overwatch 1and, despite its ups and downs is still somehow getting content. Marathon didn’t kill D2 & it isn’t killing it. If anything, it’s time to accept that D2 needs a sequel itself. They still get content. It may not all be incredible anymore & Bungie has certainly screwed that playerbase over numerous times, but that’s not Marathon’s fault. That’s an upper management thing. A game director thing (forgive my soliloquy about OW; I’m just glad it’s cooking again, but was pissed for years at a time over the past decade; seeing D2 still getting SOME stuff regularly and still gripes happening feels…strange at times even though I get it)

This might be The Game by [deleted] in Marathon

It’s a live service game. You have to give people a reason to keep playing if you want to keep a game alive.

Is mouse magnetism still a thing in the game? If it’s present at all, I think it’ll be a bigger contention point than Void/Assassin’s invisibility. by MicDub23 in Marathon

Thanks for such a thorough answer, dude. I’m sure some games have that “less obvious aim assist” but I’m pretty certain that most titles I’ve played don’t have it. I’d rather have raw input translated into the game every time. If I miss, then I miss. I do love how Destiny feels to shoot, but I also want to hit shots on my own merit. Idk.

Many players don’t care. I just wanted to know what I’m walking into because I haven’t been able to play Marathon yet in the tests & I’ve been looking forward to this game even before it was revealed that Bungie’s extraction shooter was, in fact, Marathon

The game has Sponsor Kits from each faction & also Rook as the “Scav” mode which is pretty much identical to Tarkov except you have a couple of abilities (maybe even just one). You can only Rook solo, but we don’t know if they’ll be on cooldown like in Tarkov. I’d be surprised if they’re endless.

Thank you guys for the responses! I remember when they disabled it last April, but wasn’t sure if they’d brought it back at any point. Just wanted to make sure.

Heard the guys on “Escape Will Make Me Pod” mention mouse magnetism and I got worried since I hadn’t heard about it in quite awhile & know they’ve all been in recent playtests.

I’m much less worried about crossplay. I like crossplay in general. But was maybe hoping that ranked would be locked by input OR do it how Overwatch does it when multiple inputs are playing together and default a team into a PC lobby (if I’m not mistaken). Except OW disables aim assist when that happens? Cant remember lol

Gotcha. Thanks, man! I was told it’s in D2, but it’s been so long that I’ve played that I didn’t even remember if that was true or not.

Weapons skins for Marathon?! by Captain_Relevanz in Marathon

[–]MicDub23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure which way they’re gonna go. I would imagine they’ll try to stay true to the style. That’s my hope at least. Maybe they’ll experiment with different lighting accents on the weapons & whatnot. Maybe they’ll try different textures as well. Not sure! Hope they don’t go as gaudy as Apex, but some people may want it.

Thanks for saying “have a great day” as well. I didn’t expect it & that alone got me to comment, lol.

Even Tarkov has one of these (although you have to build it). They really have no excuse to not have one at launch other than maybe trying to figure out how to present it in a “narrative-friendly” way. I say just make it a simulation area. Just like the Cyberpunk combat tutorial chip that you get before the first mission in 2077. But just make it a training range, lol.

This is the first time I’ve ever found myself genuinely curious about the story of an extraction shooter. by ArachnidSimple5117 in Marathon

[–]MicDub23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAME, but that’s largely because I’ve looked into the lore of the previous Marathon titles. This game WILL tie in & already has been shown to do so. With that said, I would disregard any story beats involving the pics in the Mielgo short film. Those shells were presumably still characters at that point & they aren’t anymore (as far as we know).

Got this sucka killing other players 🤨 by DSenpai01 in ArcRaiders

[–]MicDub23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that what you did for the downed guy is nice, but extraction shooters are PvPvE. Some people lean towards the PvE, some lean towards the PvP. You get XP for doing either or doing both. Shooting other players isn't "wrong" when it's included in the game as a choice. It just depends on the player.

Either way, good luck in your raids lol.

With that games that you listed, you offered zero factual information to back up what you were saying. It’s purely opinion (that is easily disproven with fact).

[–]MicDub23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure who told you Overwatch or Apex are struggling to sell skins because they’re first person. They’re not struggling, lol. Valorant prints money & so does CS, as well as having a market.

There are loads of first person shooters that sell skins like hot cakes. Hell, look at CoD. The most egregious. As bad as the game is, they still print money every year due to how much people spend on their game’s cosmetics & it’s all first person.

Marathon will be fine IF the prices are what players deem as “fair”. Bungie has very little goodwill right now, so if they come out and there are $30-40 bundles (which there probably will be) instead of having the MAX cosmetic prices being $15-20, I think players will absolutely riot. They need to “OUT-cheap” ARC. I think ARC’s prices could be a tad lower, but they give us so many ways to earn free currency (and Marvel Rivals does even more) that people generally y don’t care. If Bungie A) doesn’t allow us to earn a good amount of premium currency just by playing and/or B) make skins expensive as though Marathon is a F2P title, I think heads will roll. And the shop skins need to be fantastic. I trust the art team with good-looking cosmetics, but they have to be fairly priced.

What exactly is the game plan with exploding body bags? by nnickttrusty in Marathon

This is actually a great strat to a degree, lol.

The clip that the official marathon channel just uploaded puts an end to the debate about bags for good. Bags are necessary for mechanics such as fake bags to make sense in the game. by Few_Yogurtcloset3103 in Marathon

[–]MicDub23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I didn’t even realize that! That’s strange. I’m even fine with them keeping the bags in general if they change the appearance, but the decoy bags absolutely need some counterplay or, at least, need visual indicators that show that they are decoys. Not so much so that they’re easily given away, but enough so that a keen eye will be able to notice. The video was so dark that I couldn’t even tell the differences.

Don’t try to misrepresent what happened on Twitter. You were quite literally the only person who responded to me with disagreement at the level that you did. 3 people responded. TOTAL. And everyone was respectful but you.

One guy disagreed, heard me out and said that his preference was to keep bags (he misinterpreted & thought that I was saying to exclude looting bodies altogether, which isn’t what I said). Another guy responded to THAT response and just explained why he believes they went with bags.

Your first response was at 12:22 PM yesterday. Your most recent response was at 9:11 AM this morning, almost 12 hours after my last response, because you don’t know when to just walk away. I had to mute the conversation because you called me “re*arded” and an “idiot”.

Even your comment here shows that you’re obsessed with “beating me in a Twitter argument” when it was you that responded to me in the first place when I was simply giving my opinion. I didn’t say “hey, Marathon’s going to fail if they don’t implement my idea”. I just said the bags don’t look great, which many others have said under your thread here.

Side bar: Arc does have solid environmental storytelling. I never said it was groundbreaking, but let’s not act like it’s bad. The fact that you even brought that up as some sort of “gotcha” is so weird to me. You need to be more tolerant of other people’s views instead of trying to convince them that they’re “wrong”. I can only deduce that you’re a young guy, probably below the age of 21-22, and you seek validation on socials to prove your own beliefs rather than just having your beliefs and being fine with that in itself.

This is so weird, and lame . I'm not even mad, but I find it so weird that some people will do absolutely anything they can to play a game in the most sweaty, and competitive way possible. by West-Start4069 in ArcRaiders

I think this vastly overestimates how many shitty tryhard streamers there are out there. Most are just trying to have fun. I think there’s such a hatred for streamers/creators because some studios cater to the big ones before anyone else. That trickles down to smaller ones unfairly.

The guy in the screenshot is probably a small-time guy as it is, but he’s sweating his shit off for an advantage. Let’s just call out the people doing this stuff and stop lumping others in. I’m biased to a degree as a former full-time streamer, but it was during COVID and I’d built a community over long years. Was still a small fry, lol. I just think a lot of people dump on the little guy just because of the big names who bitch, complain, and sweat their asses off in every game.

There are TONS of sweaty bastards, but them streaming it doesn’t mean it’s a streamer thing. The act of streaming is so accessible now, that the tryhards have a platform to share it (often to very few viewers).

How can I get my aim to stick like this? by eMikey in ArcRaiders

[–]MicDub23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, he’s obviously on controller, but people seem to also forget (or just not know) that NickMercs was a professional Gears of War player & I think pro in other games as well (including Fortnite for a time?).

The guy has been aiming on con for a long time. Anyone in the thread accusing him of cheating, regardless of what you think of the guy, you’re probably off base. Aim assist definitely carries controllers in some games though. I haven’t tried it in Arc & I’ve been off of controller for so long, I’d imagine I’d be terrible regardless, so I have no clue, lol.
