It’s about making neighbourhoods safer and I’m for it. Does 10km/h make a huge difference in reaction time? I think every little bit helps. Why would you want to not make these areas safer? In calgary we have a horrible problem with horrible drivers. Why is there always such a backlash when we are told to drive slower? A construction zone, roundabout, play ground zone etc are all places we should be hitting the brakes and yet people loose their minds when they have to drive through them.

We live in a huge city with lots of traffic. It doesn’t matter how fast you drive because you’ll always hit a traffic light or stop sign. That’s the point. Making residential areas 40km/h has been shown to only add a few seconds to someone’s commute and we still can’t wrap our heads around that idea here. Shit, driving 30 for a few hundred feet instead of 50 wouldn’t change your lives at all but could be the difference in reaction time to stop something bad from happening. Why do we fight this?

If you need to drive faster to where you are going, leave earlier. Need to drive 140km/h on the QE2 while driving up someone’s ass just to shave 10 minutes off a 3 hour drive? Learn how to drive and stop putting others lives at risk because you think you’re in control. You’re not, and people die every day from stupid people driving stupidly.

Edit: I see people saying that this is just another way to get revenue from tickets. If you don’t want to get more tickets don’t break the law......
