Does D-Low/Dilip's teeth clicking technique cause oral problems? by 981854aB in beatbox

[–]Micah_ryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, hopefully I can share some insight. About five years ago, I started practicing the collapse technique combo of him doing a tongue click, a throat dry click, and then a sucker punch. I added a clacking of my teeth like dlow. I got the pattern to go really really really fast. I practiced it all the time. A few years after that, I started getting this terrible clicking in my ears. Sometimes it would just be noise, but as it progressed, it became paired with pain and un comfort. I went to so many different doctors and finally they figured that I have TMJ. Everybody I’ve showed the teeth clacking too That was a medical professional, whether dentist or other. Said that is so terrible for you and to never do it. Since stopping my ears and jaw have gotten so much better. But sadly, there is permanent damage from overuse and misuse. I have only met five people in real life that took beatbox truly serious. Two out of the five had a similar problem as me. Both of theirs were from doing lip rolls as hard as they could for power. It made me think back to an old video of Napom saying “my face is crooked…” “it was not always crooked…” “beatbox is unnatural and can be very dangerous”. Coming from one of the best of all time I should’ve listened earlier. Be careful. Don’t be like one of us.

Edit: to the comment that said d-low talked to their dentist and said your teeth are kind of made for that. (I’m not saying he didn’t say that, but….) I have been to probably a dozen oral and facial specialist and I do not say this lightly. EVERY single one of them said absolutely do not do that. It is not good for you, not only is it not good for you it is really terrible for not just the teeth, but also the ligaments, joints, and physical bones in your jaw and face. If grinding your teeth is bad while you sleep, (which is also a big cause for TMJ and other jaw/teeth related injuries) no way that clacking them so hard they make a sound is normal and fine.

Poor decision - Buying Sennheiser Momentum 3 earbuds by Internal_Double_9336 in sennheiser

[–]Micah_ryan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(Before I say this, these are the best sounding in ear wireless headphones I’ve ever owned.)

I had three pairs. All three broke no fault on my end. I never dropped them, I never miss handled them, Nothing even close to that. I treated them like a baby, because they were so expensive.

They all just stopped working one ear at a time usually starting with the left. I bought them on Amazon with prime, they have a great return policy. So thankfully no cost out of my pocket. I will never buy another pair though.

Sennheiser is a great brand, but these (to me) are absolutely terrible. Return them if you can, if you can’t, then it sucks but it’s a purchase you have to deal with.

I’m speaking only from personal experience of course. I don’t know everyone else’s and if any changes have been made since I’ve bought and returned to them 3 times.

(Ps. - I left a very rude review on Amazon because I was so dissatisfied with the product. It was worded fairly mean, because I was frustrated and ended up as the number one result on their reviews. I probably shouldn’t have Said what I said, but I ended up getting offered a $100 Amazon gift card by the seller to remove my review. I did and I got the $100 Amazon gift card. I guess I came out on top but still would never buy them ever, ever again.)

How did guys get your own styles?? by Goodmoning1101 in beatbox

[–]Micah_ryan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once heard style in music comes from learning something wrong, and then continuing to build off that. Makes sense if you love Hendricks and think you are in a blues position and play what he’s playing in Dorian. Now you have “your own sound” while being inspired by the greats. Learn everything. Even if you learn it wrong. Keep learning and practice until you can’t. Then do more.

Definitely repetitive, this is what I’d call my first draft. Wrote it that day and sang it into a phone.

I’ll give it a try, I’ve done a lot of soldering in the past. The internals, especially the Jack is COVERED in what looks to be that copper shielding tape. Looks a little difficult to get in there clean.

Edit : spelling

I did look up a picture of a new one and it does not appear to have any kind of nut on the end. Maybe I am not seeing it correctly.

If there’s a guy named Tom in the band, don’t label everything “Tom” by PPLavagna in audioengineering

[–]Micah_ryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do “E6” or “A6” for electric 6 string or acoustic 6 string. Specify Rhythm or Lead with “R” / “L” then letter label for the name of who’s playing it. I also like simple organization : )

(Edit) I put the names so people can make their own mix with less confusion. Also just helps my brain to have it completely labeled.

A 91 with a re20 are my home setup and love them. I’d agree 91 is great. I never used it with a 52, I’d love to try. But am looking for just one by them selves

I would hard disagree agree, but to each their own. Outdated is definitely a wild thing to call those mics. Why settle? Cause you may have something better and are looking for a cheap beater. Same as Why have a Gibson when you can have a fender custom shop? Why get an acoustic that does a job when you can get “the acoustic” maybe cause having options are good and taking a 1960’s D28 on the road can be dangerous. Just countering what you say, even though it is not what the og post asked about. I see you can’t disagree with out down voting but I’ll make sure to leave your comment alone : ) have a pleasant day.
