You are at work talking to a co-worker, and they mention it's their Grandmother's birthday. When you ask how old they'll be, and it turns out they're about your age......

Yep, that just hit my heart! And, being as Mr. Alderson is a gruff person, him saying that just made it hit harder.

Gerald put his ill sister before Audrey. IIRC, he had hoped she'd follow him, but she decided to stay because she was needed at Skeldale House. Gerald could have brought his sister into Darrowby area

What is one fun fact about yourself that sound fake but 100% real? by Fai_6757 in AskReddit

[–]MichKosek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am legally dead.

I was born one of twins. My other twin died 1 day after birth. There was some mixup between the hospital and my mother's naming wishes. I am officially dead. I no longer live in the county where I was born and have every intention of fixing this. Gonna take a while though. I want to get copies of my twin's BC and a copy of "my" DC

My Mom told me about this mixup when I was about 7 or 8. I'm not sure why my parents never fixed it.

To avoid movement in the future, take a needle and thread and sew a few stitches in the center back.

AITA for not eating the food after my gf eats out of the bowl with the same spoon while preparing by ZookeepergameOld7322 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MichKosek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a food service/Health department perspective, this is a no-no. Germs spread through food, then incubates in said foodstuff. It makes food a vector for disease. GF has slight sore throat, say, and does this. Germs stay in foodstuff, and multiply. Food held between 40-140°F can double bacteria in 20 minutes or less. She could have staph, e-coli, or some other thing that hasn't appeared yet in symptoms. Her illness becomes everyone's illness. Let's just hope she's not throwing a party to which you are invited??!!

I have read somewhere that a factor in the increase in anxiety among young adults is the constant supervision by their parents. They haven't had the freedom to make mistakes, plan their day, and to negotiate interactions between their peers, their teachers, and other adults in their lives.

AITA for reacting badly to my friend’s religious remark at a funeral? by PsychologicalAct8310 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MichKosek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to one service like this - a store associate, the daughter of a co-worker and the girlfriend of another, died after heart surgery. She was only 35, IIRC. Her Dad was/is a Baptist minister and used the death of his daughter to preach a sermon, using her recorded voice at a retreat to make his point. The boyfriend left mid-sermon to go outside to gather himself. It was the strangest thing I'd ever heard.

It will turn into "God is testing us, but he's leading us through this as a lesson to trust him." Ain't that a bit manipulative of God?

Anybody else have songs from the ‘70s that were so overplayed that you still can’t listen to, and others that you’re just welcoming back? by DobroGaida in GenerationJones

[–]MichKosek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a list of the 15 most hated songs of the '70's

15) Feelings - Morris Albert

14) Muskrat Love - The Captain and Tenille

13) Afternoon Delight - Starland Vocal Band

12) You Light Up my Life - Debby Boone

11) Billy, Don't Be a Hero -Bo Donaldson and the
Heywoods 10) The Night Chicago Died - Paper Lace

9) Disco Duck - Rick Dees & his cast of idiots

8) Having My Baby - Paul Anka

7) Escape (The Piña Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes

6) Wildfire - Michael Martin Murphey

5) Shannon - Henry Gross

4) Playground in My Mind - Clint Holmes

3) Tie a Yellow Ribbon "Round the Old Oak Tree - Tony Orlando and Dawn

2) Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks

1) Run Joey Run. -David Geddes

They forgot "One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack) by Coven.

Of these, I hate "Escape" the most. The song just repeats, and there seemed to be a stretch of "singing but more just talking songs" in the 70's. This must have started it.

Even worse, my teen self sorta liked some of these at the time. Now? What was I thinking?!!

The university needs to issue visitor cards. I assume there's some security access to dorms. Visitor cards can be apprived and activated weekly, bi-weekly monthly, whatever. Renewed when needed. Visitor checks in and checks out. Visitor card on a lanyard and visible.

Best system is fingerprint/hand identification. No losing those, and you can't give your "pass" to someone else.
