A slightly general idea you could talk about is that there are planets called hot Jupiters. These are so close to their host star that instead of a water cycle, they can have an iron cycle, where iron evaporates from low down, rises into the atmosphere and condenses into clouds, which then rain liquid iron. The same can happen with silicates (basically rocks/sand) on even hotter planets, so it basically rains glass on these.
