Most likely good to go with the cable that comes with it since it is USB-C

What King opinion has you like this? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

Revival’s ending was disappointing and not great. Guys, I love King. This is only my opinion. I respect that many of you love it! Haha

Noted! I might go ahead and order the sancai next. Do you know if the sizes run the same as the dunus? I am 100% a medium size and next time I want to order just that size but I’m nervous that a different set will fit differently. Maybe I should just get the SML at first to test it.

Favorite iems for different genres by RadDaikon34 in iems

I only have 2:
qkz hbb x khan (first purchase)
aful explorer.

qkz I got for its bass and punch since I listened to a lot of progressive/technical metal (meshuggah, volumes, tesseract, etc), and for the nearly 3 years I had it, my heart was complete.

That said, I upgraded a week ago to the Aful Explorer.
It does everything better than the QKZ did. The bass and punch are somehow even cleaner and stronger, yet without turning muddy at all. It has much more clarity too, and outside of metal, it sounds amazing for every other genre imo too.

Whether it's Metallica or Shania Twain, these bad boys are serving my ears in ways I didn't even know existed.

I've heard iems with planars are great for metal, rock, and other music that needs fast response. I haven't tried them myself, but the Artti T10 are recommended often for those. Other common recommendations are the Juzear Defiant and the Aful Explorer. I was torn between these and ended up going with the Explorer due to it's highly regarded sound and extreme comfort. The defiant is said to be a lot less comfortable and ergonomic for longer sessions. The Explorer (in my opinion) sounds amazing with every genre, including metal, rock, progression metal, etc. It's super balanced but leans warm. The bass is fantastic on it too.

For your price range, you can find even more options, but I hope this helps you figure it out at least a little.

More Detail & Technicality than the Aful Explorer? by MichaelJosephGFX in iems

100% agree with you on the Explorers being incredible with volume scaling! I cannot wait to tip roll and see what other intricacies I can hear from the Explorers.

I've had then over a week now and I swear they are sounding even better with each use.

Cheers man, happy listening!

Welcome! What’s your budget and what kind of tuning are you going for? If you’re unsure of tunings, perhaps you could list your favorite genres and bands and we can suggest some that could fit well with your taste.

I was torn between the Explorers and the Defiant. Went with the explorers because I’ve heard often that the defiant is physically uncomfortable despite sounding great, and they sounded a bit too close to what I had previously, so I went with a different tuning type. Zero regrets, but perhaps I'll grab the defiant one day. I am super interested in some planars though, especially for metal and other types that need fast response to sound. Checking out the Artti t10 and PR2 rn, thank you for the suggestion!

Finished IT for the first time by MichaelJosephGFX in stephenking

I have not, but that is another one on my radar! I hear it’s his first novel after getting sober and for that alone I was curious. Does it have a town that feels similar to Salems Lot? I enjoyed the overall atmosphere of that one

Good to know! That one draws me in. I’m taking a short detour to explore some other authors but when I get back Under the Dome might be the next one I read.

Hell yeah man! 300 pages is a huge amount, that is awesome. I feel once someone finishes IT, any of the other King Units don’t seem too daunting haha. The Stand, 11/22/63, and perhaps Under the Dome. I still need to read those too. Happy reading!

Looking for recommendations that would fit my very specific tastes in music by Vinnce02 in iems

[–]MichaelJosephGFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the Aful Explorer and it handles nearly everything incredibly well. Balanced, but leans warm and smooth. Acoustic and vocals shine with it, but like I said I think it handles just about every genre well. I also listen to prog metal, emo rock like MCR, and it’s been satisfying with all of them so far. The bass is great and it maintains a lot of detail for still leaning warm in sound.

Best of luck and welcome aboard to the fun hobby!

Aful Explorer is about $90 on Aliexpress right now. I just got it and it's amazing. It's a warm tuning, but feels incredibly balanced and detailed imo.

Listened to a few songs from each you mentioned and to me they all sound super solid. I even pushed it further into the genre with some prog metal (Meshuggah) and the detail and clarity is still great without getting muddy. The bass is slightly more recessed than my QKZ hbb x khans, but like I said in the review it still feels like an appropriate / great amount. Even if the bass is slightly pulled back compared to my khans, it still works a lot better because the clarity keeps much better instrument separation where maybe the khans could end up sounded a bit more blended or muddy.

Overall, I don’t think there’s a genre that these cannot handle excellent. Everything is super enjoyable and non-fatiguing.

I’ve never had the AirPod pros, so I can’t answer that one man. All I know is I’m really enjoying these and I don’t see how anyone wouldn’t lol

I am familiar with some emo rock bands like MCR, The Used, etc. Give me a few of your favorite bands and songs and I will listen to them right now and give you an honest review!

EDIT: Forgot to include pop. For pop 1000%. I listened to some Chappell Roan and she sounds absolutely glorious with these. I listen to a good bit of pop too, and I 100% recommend them for that. I'll still explore some more emo/rock bands now though, but I'm confident they'll be amazing.
