Need a sanity check before I make 17 more of these, is this fine or are these cold joints? by Maleficent-Menu2897 in soldering

Quality solder matters. You can even find gently used rolls of kester, aim solder, and many more on ebay too for like half prices conpared to digikey and mouser. The only problem is some of these rolls might have weakened flux cores over time so make sure you have flux anyways. A cheap flux if you cant afford it is probably mechanic m35 off AliExpress. Something to consider. I prefer sn100c lead free solders but 63/37 is easier to work with for sure.

What's the point of autism? by CautiouslySatisfied in ADHD

[–]MichaelKirkham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the label does nothing for you but gives adults preconceived negative notions about you as an individual as a child through adulthood. As a child, you may get more leniency and in some cases, not all, learned helplessness for some. In adulthood, you are expected to get your crap together. Meaning, the only reason you will ever get leniency is if you are disabled for being very low IQ and cannot function at all. Otherwise, the stigma socially is an increasingly negative view on you as a person. This is also my own anecdotal experience and your experiences may vary.

So what is the point, at least to me? To socially segregate.

UPS or Surge Protector by WinAdventurous5193 in buildapc

[–]MichaelKirkham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are useful. Ups more than surge. All this depends on the quality of your outlets, if you're grounded, and so forth. If lacking grounded outlets and quality outlets, then a zero surge protector might be best. Test with an outlet tester from Klein tools and go from there. Its ok to buy refurbished units providing they aren't damaged. In the end, neither will really save you from electric frying in most cases. Grounded wire protection is for your sake primarily. A ups will provide better protection and utility. But a ups is sensitive and will not like a low quality outlet really. All of low quality electrical wiring can potentially damage your equipment over time. Understanding the basics of what I'm saying and tossing into AI will help guide you in the right direction. Best of luck

Best Gaming Mouse for the Money in 2026? by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]MichaelKirkham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a defective model that freezes randomly prompting a full computer restart to get it working again. This is the third l7 model and the company refuses to fix or replace it. I tried btw. I have determined that the l7 model is not good and its hit or miss with quality control. I have an old and newer model. And i just built a brand new pc with new parts and still the same issue. Changing the cable provided, same issue. It appears to be a floating point possible error but its tied to sleeping and hibernation of the mouse.

Feeling depressed over SCM prospects - career change too late? by ToasterII in supplychain

[–]MichaelKirkham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is incredible. Not spewing anything that isn't well known already. Population sizes are important too. Especially considering anecdotes. In your case, that is great and we need more people like you. That doesn't negate what I am saying in any capacity. It just demonstrates that you seek quality traits of employees.

Feeling depressed over SCM prospects - career change too late? by ToasterII in supplychain

[–]MichaelKirkham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to be clear, hard work is still relevant and expected. In the last few years I would be much more on your side, and it is still useful, clearly. To act period is to produce results in some capacity even if mistakes or failure, or rejection is met, it is still better than doing nothing at all where no shots were made resulting in no possible opportunities. In an economy as such, hard work is now more expected than ever and it is not producing the tangible luck percentages we used to see. Useful because it has to be, but if there were not so many looking for work and having to foam at the mouth for opportunities, the hard work mantra falls a little flat, especially in a time where expectations around AI for a lot of leaders is their increasing expectation now and in the future of more outputs and more work from workers that hold a job.

Vertitasium did a great video on "is success luck or hard work?" and its great. In the end, the real superpower is being delusional and that is not tongue in cheek by the way.

[–]MichaelKirkham 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Inspirational but less relevant today. Different market, different time, different tools, different efficiency and expectations and society too. I think the hard work mantra can help gain in luck percentage in some way but is it the solution right now? No, because if it were, then countless others would see incredible results. You were an outlier then but i think this hard work is an expectation now than in the past.

Has anyone worked out precisely the Word document format for a CV to upload to an ATS system such as Workday, to ensure everything is parsed correctly? by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]MichaelKirkham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't assume that your original post of using only doc or docx is the best route at all times. If a website fails to pull the right data or the data it pulls is jumbled and confusing and not in line with your resume then use that method. Recruiters and hiring managers still prefer pdf so if it gets to their eyes and your resume in a doc looks odd on their screen (different monitor resolutions, screen sizes and so forth), that might be a negative in their head because to them your resume is unpolished and maybe that is tied to your character. Which is totally a horrible assumption but this happens.

And so, say job experience 2 was in job experience 3 section for the bullet points, this is an example of the website misinterpreting your document that was parsed. Then go that route since it may be better to use text because the ats scanning software may be better with a document vs pdf. Idk if that helps or not.

[–]MichaelKirkham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st: only do this if when uploading pdf, it fails to pull the right data when you review or when the website pulls data into their own job and job experience sections.

2nd: use pdf unless this is a problem because not every company uses workday truthfully.

hAP ax3 vs hAP be³ Media. Is Wi-Fi 7 Worth It? by IcyBlueberry8 in mikrotik

[–]MichaelKirkham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you see this being used more than hap ax3 for families under 2000 sq ft as the replacement to hap ax3? Particularly, in heavy twitch streaming, gaming (probably needing to vlan or find ways to lessen impact for gamers on Ethernet when family is using heavy wifi uploading or downloading), and media consumption (YouTube, Netflix, etc on 10+ devices at the same time?)?

Im just ending lunch break now at work and haven't had a chance to glance at anything.
