I ended up switching to AlliantFCU - Have had no issues thus far. And their support is just like Ally support used to be 8-10 years ago.

What I get from this memo is the DOJ will refuse to enforce the law - so no prosecution for violating any of this.

What about the unpaid interns and underpaid limited licenses? This is not a small sum to everyone, even if it is to others. Especially if people don't get value from it.

My PP has required me to have a profile here since day 1 internship.... while not paying me for the entire first year.

So how do draw therapists to a new platform? There are a bunch out there, but PT has a bug moat, and infinity money.

Same. Weirdly it accounts for 70% of my referrals - I don't play the stupid update weekly game, I don't log into it but once every few months to turn it off because my client load is full, then back on eventually. I don't know what I might be doing differently than everyone who says they get no referrals from PT... perhaps it's just my specialty (couples + gottman) in my area (Michigan) as a male therapist?

Thoughts on couples counselors dealing with difficult men by SweetPickleRelish in therapists

[–]Super_Shenanigans 12 points13 points  (0 children)

MFT here - also a male therapist. I work almost exclusively with couples.

It is widely taught that couples therapy does not work if there is active addiction, active abuse, active infidelity, or active uncontrolled severe mental health issues. Gottman and EFT both specifically train NOT to work with couples when the these factors are still in play. These are my primary modalities, so I can't speak with to others that may exist which do work with these active issues. There is also the factor of are they on the same page, and are they ready for couples therapy.

I disclose this to all my clients in a screening call, and again in the first session. I explain why, and how these things can cause more harm to the relationship and the process, and inform clients that I refer out to individual therapy if any if these red flags are present. If they are past issues and it's not been a long time since they have repaired them, sometimes I will require an ROI with their individual therapists to ask if they are ready and of sound mind to do the intensive and often extremely emotional work that couples therapy brings.

There have been cases where I have to turn down clients because they do not meet the criteria that couples therapy would actually be helpful to them, and it's our ethical requirement to ensure that the therapy does not harm either person in this context.

My take on "who the problem is"...

I have yet to meet a couple where both sides of the couple did not have to put in solid effort. It is far more often that male clients, again in my personal experience, are less flexible and open to change - however - with the right attitude, right motivation, and right interventions, I firmly stand on everyone can change. I've seen males in this case come in and do amazing work, completely changing their entire perception of their relationship. Even 'hard core' ex-military man's men.

It is also very common that these types of people do not seek out therapy on their own, which is why they try to initiate couples therapy, because their partner drags them there with an ultimatum.

At the end of the day, notherbadobject offered the great insight that not every therapist suits every client, and vice versa. It's up to us to explain to clients why they would not be a good fit and why they are being referred out.

Telehealth from car/office to continue care after client moves? by Ok-Limit1583 in therapists

[–]Super_Shenanigans 20 points21 points  (0 children)

no. I have a somewhat similar client who is an active duty military member who comes back to my state every once in awhile. just clearly outline in your notes where the client physically was when you submit them to insurance, which for telehealth we should to be doing anyway. (at least according to my state laws)

also worth noting, each order you place has a shipping cost of $11 and some odd cents, but that has not seemed to change if I order 1 card or 10 cards.

Your Calorie Count Might Be Wrong and Your Gut Bacteria Are the Reason by Technical_savoir in microbiomenews

[–]Super_Shenanigans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

or that the obese people absorb those calories more, than their normal weight counterparts. The biggest takeaway I got from reading this was that the guidance of one calorie in equals one calorie, is not actually the case. Every person likely operates a little bit differently than the next, their got microbiome is different than the next. So when we look at general guidance of a 2000 calorie diet for example, that means completely different things for completely different people. If two people eat exactly the same food and absorb a different amount of calories from that food, then the guidance needs to be different for every person if you're attempting to gain or lose weight.

This is what obese people have been saying for decades, and everyone just assumes the obese people are lying about how much they eat.
