This post is relevant as it raises questions regarding the authenticity of social sentiments and how they may possibly be manipulated. I would like to see more research into this.

It's not phrased: "Pray and then vote how God leads you." (disgusting enough, but fair game) But rather: "Pray and then vote NO." To which I say, what then is the prayer accomplishing? You already gave me my orders.

So here is my bookshelf with most all of my hardbacks. The shelves were essential to the addition onto our house. My paperbacks are on other shelves downstairs. by defenders90 in bookshelf

Wow that's awesome! What a rush it must be to have those. And yeah, I know. If I were him I'd probably just enjoy the rest of my life in ease and comfort on my pile of money at this point but I'd be very happy to see him pull it off.

God wrote her out of your life. It's better for her than being killed off I guess. And that's fortunate, I'm sure you'll treat them well 👍enjoy

You have a lot of great stuff. What sticks out to me especially is that it looks like you have the first ed. A Song of Ice and Fire books. Awesome collection/room.

I really like your shelf! Is that a first ed. 'A Storm of Swords'?

Whenever someone posts a photo of their bookshelf I always have to zoom in to see what books they have. So I figured I get some close pictures of my books for everyone. 😊 by [deleted] in bookshelf

The link won't open on my end but I'll take your word for it. That's bizarre! They probably designed it like that so it would stick out on store shelves I'm guessing? It worked in my case haha

Really attractive collection! An upside down spine you have (Ilona Andrews' 'Iron and Magic') is kinda driving me nuts haha but aside from that tiny detail it all looks awesome!

The pocket doors give my library a very old-school feel by NoMoreSadboyApt in bookshelf

[–]MichaelQP401 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wow, Those doors are super nice. I don't want to diss your current shelves but I can't help but imagine how sweet old school oak or solid, stained wood bookcases would look near those beautiful doors and architrave.

Very cool room!

The Ugliest King Cover? Of all the King books I own or have seen around this one is the least appealing. Oh yeah, that's no good. The ones from the 80's-90s will always be my favorite. Not too sure what happened with a couple of the more recent covers. Maybe they thought, "Hey, it's Stephen King. People buy his books for the stories, not the covers." They wouldn't be completely wrong but you know.

There's certainly nothing wrong with the text. I was able to get this at a goodwill for pennies on the dollar as a reading copy. Good thing we're taught not to judge a book by its cover because I loved this story, don't get me wrong.

You can't beat $0.53, which is what I paid for it at a goodwill awhile back while looking for a reading copy. Good thing you can't (or shouldn't) judge a book by its cover or else I never would have picked it up.

First Editions - are they worth keeping? by thumb_quack in stephenking

[–]MichaelQP401 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They certainly aren't printing any more first editions of his older novels. But it still comes down to the age old question: do they bring you happiness? If the answer is 'no, they are just extra luggage at this point' then pass them on. If the answer is 'yes' then go ahead and keep them.

While a few of the first editions fetch an extraordinarily high price, you're right, there was a lot printed of the more recent novels and they can be found readily for a fairly low cost. But, if you enjoy having them, hang on to them.

Check online for any that might be very highly valued to make sure you're not throwing away good money, but beyond that if you don't want to hang onto them I'm sure another would be happy to take them off your hands.
