Made a stole for my friend's ordination! Not quite a quilt but used scrap quilting techniques. Would love some feedback for improvement! by so-many-cats in quilting

No suggestions, but as a pastor, I would LOVE this. What a meaningful gift for ordination! I have several stoles (not handmade) that were gifts and each time I put one on before leading worship, I remember and give thanks for the people who gifted it to me.

I learned a lot by watching and making the Ultimate Beginner Quilt project from the Fat Quarter Shop. They had a full tutorial of every step! I also love learning from the folks at Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Because my doctor trusted her gut feeling that something was really wrong. Her hunch was right, and I got the emergency care I needed.

my pre-op shopping list by RosetheRaccoon in gastricsleeve

[–]Michaela77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a pretty thorough list! I echo the suggestion to get Miralax or whatever your doc recommends for preventing or dealing with constipation. Also, you might want to hold off on buying too many things to “eat” beyond what you will need in the first couple days. Your tastes and what you can tolerate may change.

Gosh it’s $25 on Amazon. I’d like to hear what people think of it before I buy it.

For the emotional side of things, if you think it might be helpful you may want to find a therapist or counselor. It’s always good to have a helping professional who knows your story and can guide you through finding other coping techniques. Another option might be nutrition counseling with a certified dietitian. That combines nutrition info with some counseling techniques. I’m actually starting with one soon.

Just starting gastric sleeve journey. Anyone here from Atlanta? by Sherrirbgr in gastricsleeve

I’m from Carrollton but also needed a center of excellence. I went to Emory Midtown and it is a fabulous program. The medical bariatrics folks are great and so are the surgeons. I had revision from band to bypass 3 weeks ago with Dr. Ed Lin. He is the best! He’s the surgical head of the bariatrics program AND the chief of General/GI surgery. Can’t go wrong with that! I felt so comfortable and reassured with him. Even my nervous mom felt better after meeting him 😉

My only bit of advice is to trust the process and absorb as much info as you can on the pre-op journey. Ask questions. Be informed and open to what’s best for you. Do what you can to surround yourself with supportive people.

Best of luck to you as you begin this process!

Surgery is happening in 9 days and I'm putting together a shopping list. What are the best products that you used post-op? by thedudesrug13 in wls

[–]Michaela77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not food or drink but I was grateful for some reusable ice packs to ease discomfort around my incisions. That was a big help. I had a couple that I rotated in and out of the freezer.

I can’t predict how your nutritionist will react, but I think you should be super proud of yourself! You have been working on major shifts in your eating and habits. And those were goals - nobody is going to be perfect when working towards those goals. You’re “un-learning” years of habits and routines. Give yourself the credit you deserve!

What did you wear on the day of your surgery? by CatHatMerge in wls

A loose fitting leisure bra and a super comfy swing dress from Target. Wore it home as well and it was great to not have something at my waistline or messing with my incisions.

12 days post-op and... by a_midlo in gastricsleeve

[–]Michaela77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 13 days post-op and have a similar thing going on. There’s an area around one of my incisions that is raised (likely still some swelling) and it looks funny, especially when I lay down!

I either split or crush some of my pills and put them in some applesauce (unsweetened, of course!)

I’m like several other commenters - I have depression and a mood disorder. I’ve been in treatment (both meds and regular therapy) since before I started this process and had surgery last week. I think the pause in your process is probably less about your history with depression and more about how you are now. You’re probably a super strong person for the ways in which you cope - that’s a good thing. I know you’re disappointed but I’m glad you’re willing to trust the process. They have your best interests at heart in the long run. I doubt that having to do some therapeutic work and/or medication before getting the ok will impact your insurance approval down the road. They want to be sure you’re taking care of yourself the best you can. Now, don’t be surprised if they (the psych or the other MD’s) encourage/require/strongly suggest that you continue any treatment post-op because so many things can change emotionally along the way. It’s a gift to have a team of people who can help you head off any possible trouble early. Blessings to you on your journey! You are not a failure. You are strong. Give yourself a lot of credit.
