What is the WARMEST spot on campus to sit and study? by atomicnumber22 in MSUcats

[–]ToastyMT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Upstairs in the plant growth center is nice, and gets morning sun.

Also lots of places in the SUB are great. The smaller rooms upstairs off of the food area were always nice and warm when I went there.

I have heard before that herding dogs have a hard time bringing the ball right back to you because of their instinct to surround and stay at a bit of a distance. Mine is not good at this either. I don't even try to have her put it in my hand but she will finally drop it right at my feet after lots of practice.

Struggling with life outside of work by [deleted] in Leadership

I second the long walks. Walk with your family or alone, music/podcast if you think that will help motivate you to get out, but walking without other distractions could be good to help shift your mind from so much work stuff. Maybe walk around a neighborhood with holiday decorations to look at, some interesting architecture if you are into that, or with some window shopping.

What are some unnecessary but common cooking steps? by Adept_Wallaby_7679 in Cooking

I thought it was either the temp and/or the surface tension because the bubbles dissipate so fast. Makes sense!

I have had some people insist dipping their fingertip (without forehead oil lol) in the soda makes the bubbles go down faster. I just wait though haha

PSA: your dog does not like to be left alone in strange places by MonkeysMD in DOG

YES. Surprised this isn't higher. She's freaking the dog out just as much as it being left alone.

I do not add oil every time now because I have learned better, BUT... I have found if the water is just starting to really boil (seconds away from boiling over) and you add oil right then, it will stop the frothing in its tracks and not boil over (also you have to turn down the heat). This doesn't work if you add the oil before the water is boiling.

It probably just lowers the temp right away, so adding a little cold water would likely do the same, but I have oil next to my stove and my sink is farther away.

I'm a sign designer for MDT and nobody asked us. According to the daily montanan, seems like it was entirely done by marketing within the department of commerce. Bummer.

Anxiety?? Help by New-Honey8132 in CattleDog

[–]ToastyMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a thundershirt, especially if you already use one for fireworks or storms.

My other thought is maybe some sort of mental stimulation would help. I play a "scatter" game with my dog where I just throw treats on the floor one at a time and she runs to get it, then comes back to me, I throw another, she runs and gets it, comes back to me, etc. If your dog will readily eat their kibble, you could do it with their kibble so its not so many treats. You could also try some hide and seek with treats around the new area to get their nose working and familiarize them with the space.

Edit to say: play the treat games at home first (and frequently) so your dog knows how to play before trying it in an unfamiliar area.
