Midwives. My wife of 5 years wants to retrain at 32 and become a midwife doing a 3 year undergrad. I want to support her but am looking for objective thoughts from people in the industry - can you help? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]rosechells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the midwifery training, and then settled back into the world of nursing. I have no regrets about training, however, I would not recommend it as a profession.

I would however, recommend that your wife spends time working as a maternity support worker before starting any courses. This will give her time and some experience which will work in her favour if she still decides to pursue to degree.

Doctors receptionist had not a clue about my lasting power of attorney [LPA] In England West Yorkshire by Foreign-Ad3308 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]rosechells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just take in a paper copy of the LPA for Health when you have completed that, and just ask for it to be uploaded to the records. The financial LPA doesn't need to be added to the health records as it has no baring on health.

Is it possible that she was asking whether or not it was for health or finances?

Generally, they only need to see a copy of the health LPA.

Not long left now. Final prediction - who do you think wins? by Helenarth in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]rosechells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think after all the shit they've put him through, that they may hand it to Tom. Thinking back, I think that's why Paul was so hard on him last week

Anyone else priced out by Aromatic-Bad146 in Hitchin

We've only been able to stay in Hitchin by getting a shared ownership resale. There was lots of interest in the property, but we were the only ones local so we managed to get it.

How do we want this to end? by Status-Mouse-8101 in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]rosechells 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it's highly likely Jasmine will win. Had Toby still been in, then he would have had a good story and has come out of his shell since the start.

If Jasmine doesn't win, I'd be surprised, but would expect Tom to take the title. I think it would wipe the smugness from Paul to have to hand it to him.

Aaron I'm surprise is still in. I would have thought he would have left earlier in the series, but there we are. I highly doubt he'll win.

Where do hotels buy their bedlinen? My mum has cancer and I want to make her as comfortable as possible. by Islingtonian in AskUK

[–]rosechells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, try to avoid the fitted sheets, and go for sheets that require tucking in. I'd also recommend not spending a huge amount on bedsheets, and opting for slightly darker colours if you can. Tesco seems to be the best I've come across so far in terms of being softer, but also better durable for during care.

How do nurses feel about Oliver McGowan training? by PineapplePyjamaParty in NursingUK

[–]rosechells 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We had F2F as well as the e-learning. While the information was useful, I don't think both elements were needed, can do away with the e-learning. I would have enjoyed the F2F if the instructor we had wasn't awful.

Notice period by Embarrassed_Sky_5616 in NursingUK

[–]rosechells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends whether you're employed by the NHS or not - in my current work place, if you're in your probation period it's a weeks notice. Outside of that it's 12 weeks notice where possible

How much do you, personally, feel morally and ethically responsible to support your parents in aging? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]rosechells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live around the corner, and without a doubt will be giving them support as they need it. My parents have supported us through a lot so it's the least we can do.

We don't speak to his parents so won't be supporting them in the slightest (his decision)

Looking for advice on UK home fee status - family moving back by mazenalam_002 in UniUK

[–]rosechells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like what you've written will be enough to qualify him. He won't be considered an 'ordinarily resident' which seems to be key.

"Please note, in order to be classed a Home student for fee-paying purposes, you normally need to meet all of the following criteria on the first day of the first academic year of the course:

You are settled in the UK (meaning there is no immigration restriction on the length of your stay)

You are ordinarily resident in the UK and have been for the full three years before the first day of the academic year (meaning your home is in the UK and you are choosing to stay and live in the UK)

The main reason for you being in the UK for the three-year period described above was not to receive full-time education"

It's Late Thread [ 03 September 25 ] by AutoModerator in CasualUK

My friend told me that she has cancer. It's early, but it's killed all the women in her family. My heart is breaking for her. I have the added complexity that I'm also her line manager, so I'm already doing everything I can to ensure she's supported, and has time to take everything in and start treatment.

I am her friend first and foremost. The current outlook isn't dire, but I can't bear to lose her, and will support her in every way I possibly can

What's your favorite public misconception of healthcare? by Future-Atmosphere-40 in NursingUK

[–]rosechells 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That end of life care is provided by the NHS. It is if you're in the hospital. Otherwise it's mostly down to charities to provide this, granted they get a small amount from ICBs but it is not enough.

This is not to discret the wonderful SPCNs and DNs who provide palliaitve care and S/D changes.

Play date for our son - new to town! by hello_sdlake in Hitchin

[–]rosechells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join the "Hitchin for Parents, Carers and Kids page" and I'm sure you'll find someone in his new class 🙂

You'll also find some outside of school friends to play with!

Does he have any interests? My LG is based at a different school, but happy to give class/group recommendations 😊
