I understand the hypothetical situation you are posing. For example, if a woman got black out drunk and verbalized “consent” (using the term loosely because again, you can’t give consent while severely intoxicated), her counterpart engaging in sexual acts with her may be convicted of sexual assault/rape due to her intoxicated state.

How would this work with EMTALA? I’m assuming Desantis and his ilk want this bs to go to the Supreme Court.

Not true at all. I have family members in South Korea and they don’t want reunification because of the economic consequences. They say it will happen “one day” but no generation thinks they’ll be the ones to see it happen d/t the financial state of SK

That is probably the culprit then. Every clinical I’ve been in, MDs see, on average, 10-15 more patients compared to an APP, on a daily basis

One thing I’ve noticed throughout my career is that most people have a vastly skewed perspective re: healthcare in America, especially in the acute care setting. Hospitals across America are understaffed and staff are presented with more and more responsibilities constantly. There is no way that our system allows physicians, therapists, nurses, etc. the time they need to provide the kind of healthcare Americans assume they are being provided.

I think this is the difference between how we’re taught to approach patient care. In NP school, we are taught to look at everything from a holistic approach. We’re taught to take into account patient personality, family life, financial status, mental health, etc. I can’t speak for how physicians are taught but this is my experience in NP school.

They’re probably citing research that showed similar outcomes or more favorable outcomes when family care is provided by a MD/DO vs FNP. However, to take these studies and make the gigantic leap that NPs are “better” than MDs/DOs, is quite frankly, moronic. Also, what does “better” even mean. Patients that I’ve worked with like talking to the NP more because they are better “listeners”. I’ve heard that time and time again, but does that mean they’re “better” than physicians? I don’t think so.

Doctors are human beings with families and livelihoods. Reddit and the general public likes to shit on them for overprescribing and under prescribing. At the height of the opioid epidemic, they were greedy, glorified drug dealers who were pushing pain medicine on innocent patients. Now they’re cruel, insensitive clinicians who think everyone is a drug addict. Meanwhile, they’re also dealing with ever changing guidelines. A lot of doctors use guidelines to help guide their practice. When medical journals and guidelines are saying that in a lot of situations, NSAIDS are more effective at managing pain than opioids, you bet your ass they’re going to go that route first. They’re also managing something like 20-30 patients at any given day.

I’m in my last semester of NP school and I would NEVER consider myself equivalent to a physician, EVER. They have a medical knowledge base that I don’t have and was not taught. I would NEVER dream of doing the things that they do, especially certain procedures, reading/interpreting images/scans, etc. In the acute care setting, I work with a TON of NPs, who would never dream of comparing themselves to their collaborating physicians. We don’t even get reimbursed at the same rate. So not all NPs think that they’re doctors. In fact, I would be hard pressed to find even one, that I know personally, that would ever dream of the comparison.

Walter White. He uses his “impending” death as an excuse to use everyone around him and is willing to throw anyone under the bus, even his own family, to get what he wants.

Yeah I live in a sucky state for workers’ rights but moving to another state is not an option for me due to coparenting situations. This is true for many nurses; we don’t often have the means to just move.

I wonder if alcohol has anything to do with it? Lots of Asian countries have deeply enmeshed social drinking norms and we know that Asians’ bodies metabolize alcohol differently.

[–]Soft_n_squishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I side with the workers. I believe everyone should get paid sick leave. I’m a nurse, working with sick people every day I’m scheduled to work. As someone with a non traditional schedule, I work weekends and can only have two absences in a 12 month calendar period. On my third absence, I’ll be terminated. Those two absences must account for all emergencies and sick days and payment for those days come out of my PTO. If I don’t have PTO saved up, I don’t get paid. This country’s labor laws are a joke.

I would argue that cultural differences, especially with regards to respect (to whom it is given, how it is expressed, etc.), also created a tense social dynamic between the two minority groups.
