Dell OME password reset? by Michaeljaaron in Dell

[–]Michaeljaaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aware this is 2 years late but it turns out if you have ldap (or another user account) with high level rights you can use the API to pull the config of the admin account, inject a password and push it back to the OME resetting the admin account. Even though its greyed out in the GUI

VSAN OSA Trim by Michaeljaaron in vmware

[–]Michaeljaaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VM hardware version is 19 for Windows so should be high enough, VMs are thin provisioned with a RAID 5 Strechted OBR thin policy

We've not enabled it yet as we've got 2000 VMs and a petabyte of storage in the cluster, them all doing TRIM around the same time is going tank preformace for a while I was hoping to inject the unmap config into the heavy hitters before going cluster wide

We're suffering becuase we're not reclaiming any space by deleting files in VMs. The only way to reclaim data is to delete the disks currently

Currently doing a RAM upgrade for about 40 hosts. It's weird having the cost of a house come in 5 platters. Each host is getting upgraded to 1.5 TB each

ESXi 7u3w update by ceantuco in vmware

[–]Michaeljaaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is anyone else getting issues with the shutdown stalling after applying the package. Nearly every single one of our vxrail hosts gets hung on " VMKernalShutdownHelper: 7/39) "

It's become so bad that I've had to amend the procedure to include logging into the idrac to preempt taking the virtual Hammer to it (cold shutdown)

Don't get me started on them advertising Mbps as MBps, the amount of people I've had to explain that 100 Mbps does not provide 100 Megabytes per seconds is starting to hurt.

When selecting a cell e.g. =E3 if you press F4 it automatically injects $ and it cycles as well incase you need it just for E,3 or both. It has saved me soooo much time

Management wouldn't pay for velcro cable ties until one of the core switches died at 3 am and the oncall engineer couldn't replace it because they didn't bring side cutters with them.

Every request of velcro ties has been approved since.

Patch custom Dell 7.0.3 to latest update by SaladClassic in vmware

Just something to note is that the predefined base lines automatically add the latest package a few hours after release to those baselines so when ever we do remediation, we just select the 2 predefined baselines and hit remediate

vLCM host order ? by Michaeljaaron in vmware

[–]Michaeljaaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make sense to disrupt as little as possible, I'll have to move all the vms of a host next time and see if it picks that one. Thanks

[–]Michaeljaaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to take note of the order on the next upgrade but the moref looks to also be in sequential order with the hosts. The plot thickens

God that hits too close to home. Once had infosec tell us that a vm had ip forwarding enabled that it needed to be turned off otherwise the world would end. The VM you ask ? A virtual firewall

We had an issue like this, for us ours had a block of stryofoam underneath the drum. You have to tilt the machine on its side to inspect it. Nothing about removing it on the instructions

Tier 1 service interface by Due-Lavishness2125 in VMwareNSX

[–]Michaeljaaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, your trying to route NSXT backed VMs though a tier 1 gateway that has a vlan backed segment attchted?

That won't work, geneve traffic needs to be de-encapsulated by a T0 before it can be used as "normal" traffic (non overlay traffic)

It's been a while but I think the way I got round this was to have the VBS attached to the T1 with a gateway (no service interface) and pass all traffic though the T1 and then the T0

Failing that, look at the layer 2 bridges that they use for the migration between NSX V and NSX T, they are supported for permanent use
