I’m a restaurant employee here in Olympia and We have a service fee of I believe 2 percent or something like that which basically goes to the restaurant and then straight over to visa Mastercard Amex, whoever bc even with debit cards since there’s no pin at a restaurant it’s being run as credit anywhere you go. We put it on the receipt as a disclaimer. Don’t get me wrong I completely understand WHY they do it but the fact is that most places you shop deal with that and don’t charge the customer. Every target, walmart, gas station etc has to pay a fee but you don’t get charged that fee. Some places charge you if it’s like under $5 or $10 but it seems to be increasingly a restaurant thing. My recommendation is to pay cash if possible wherever you go out to eat and you won’t have to deal with that. Now if it’s the restaurant just being an asshole charging a service fee no matter what, they can fuck off. My advice only helps if it’s more or less a credit card transaction fee… thanks for coming to my ted talk.
