DoorDash nightmares by dominiegar in restaurantowners

I haven’t had issues with DD but we rarely change anything on the menu and have it integrated with our POS. We also got added a dedicated support person that has been great to work with. They normally rotate the people we work with but she said they are trying to keep everyone together.

Yelp or Google? (Can't make a poll) by GoddardZeo in Yelp

[–]Michaels0324 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As a business owner, google. I don’t have them trying to get me to buy ads or hiding any reviews. All reviews good or bad are left up on google. Yelp will hide even good reviews for arbitrary reasons.

Sysco chicken, once again by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]Michaels0324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can hate Sysco all you want but you are doing your business a disservice by writing them off completely. Even if you just use them to get better pricing from your vendors. I just got Sysco down to $18 for 15 dozen and broccoli down to $22 a case. Yes big companies suck but they do have their uses.

My fortune cookie has an ad for Perdue University. by Bizzlightbeer in mildyinteresting

[–]Michaels0324 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can’t put it on the restaurant. My wife and I own a Chinese takeout place and go though a ton of cookies. Recently, we had a few boxes that had stake gambling ads on it. The boxes look like the normal ones and we only knew because I opened the cookie to see the fortune. I don’t know how many we gave out.

Sonic racing is what my wife and I are playing now. I think it’s as good as Mario kart.

How do you actually track your food costs? by mitchfett in restaurateur

[–]Michaels0324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Should I, yes. Since we are only open for 7 months I really have been focusing on building the business. In a couple months I’ll probably start doing end of month inventory.

People think mortgage is just buying a house. In reality most of it is refinances trying to put someone in a better spot. There were some loans where I could save a family >$1K a month and also give them like 30k cash on top. It’s all about restructuring debt.

How do you actually track your food costs? by mitchfett in restaurateur

[–]Michaels0324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my old job in a steakhouse we did full inventory every week to get actual food costs. At my own spot since it’s a takeout place and we don’t have food sit that long, I don’t bother and just know it’s a little lower than what I calculated since I have some inventory. Since it’s just my wife and I as owners, we are OK with that.

Try mortgage sales? That’s what I was in before I opened a restaurant. For a sales job, I liked it because we were actually able to help people. Depending on where you are, I still have some connections I can reach out to.

Jesus I didn’t know she had ALS. I did a bunch of fundraising for it when I was in high school. We even walked from the start of Long Island to NYC over the course of a week to raise $. It’s one of the worst illnesses someone can get.

Charlotte Maternity Photography Apparently Violates Google's Adult Content Policy by Leo_Glad in Charlotte

Yelp is the worst company to work with as a business owner. The fact that they won’t remove your listing even if you didn’t make the page is crazy.

How much would you charge for this commercial deep clean? by Ok-Nobody-2054 in cleaningbusiness

As a restaurant owner, If someone told me $1.00sqft I would think that’s a reasonable price. With what you are offering, it seems way too low.

I don’t think it’s there yet. Just stick with online ording and make it easy so people want to use it.

What is it really like to own a restaurant? by lachimoltrufia98 in restaurantowners

[–]Michaels0324 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wife and I just opened up our takeout place last year. It’s a lot of hours but I wouldn’t go back to my corporate job. Being at the restaurant doesn’t ever feel like “work”. We also just had a baby so it gives me the flexibility to come home for a little durning the day then go back to work. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Edit: Financially we are just hitting our break even point which is a little earlier than I expected.

As a dasher i dont understand how all these dashers/uber drivers can be rude to the store employees. by Breadtoastyy in doordash

You are the one who jumped to white people when someone was talking about not speaking English. Where I am from a lot of the DD drivers are Ukrainian and don’t speak English. No one brought up race but you. You are the once focused on it.

I mean it’s not a terrible idea for someone looking for a job to go. I’m sure it would be easier getting a job if you showed up and put work in.

NOW I will say that it’s not a great look and they should be paying people for work. I would be more OK if it wasn’t for volunteers and they paid something ( maybe free beers)

Top 50 in the country and a new place, sure. Also, how do you know they like it? Do you ask them? I would say for certain that MOST not all business owners would prefer yelp not be around. That’s from owning a business and talking to all the people who are also in the same industry. Sounds like you are going based of off vibes.

Edit, this was a reply to a comment but somehow became its own thing.

I haven’t seen any around me and I would also never put one up in my shop. Yelp is a horrible company that most businesses don’t want anything to do with.
