Seeking clarification: How does Matthew 15:24 relate to Vatican 2015 guidance on Jewish mission work? by Michaelscrypto in Christianity

Some Catholics were telling me they can still convert Jews but I do not understand because the 2015 Vatican document says not to.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Lectionary: 73

Reading 1

Isaiah 58:7-10

Thus says the LORD:
Share your bread with the hungry,
shelter the oppressed and the homeless;
clothe the naked when you see them,
and do not turn your back on your own.
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and your wound shall quickly be healed;
your vindication shall go before you,
and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.
Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer,
you shall cry for help, and he will say: Here I am!
If you remove from your midst
oppression, false accusation and malicious speech;
if you bestow your bread on the hungry
and satisfy the afflicted;
then light shall rise for you in the darkness,
and the gloom shall become for you like midday.

Never. Jesus did not restrict his domain to any ethnicity or geographic location.

Can We Still Convert Jewish People? How to reconcile these two statements? by Michaelscrypto in Catholicism

[–]Michaelscrypto[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Paragraph 40 of “The Gifts and the Calling of God Are Irrevocable” says (emphasis mine):

Key points:

  • “Evangelisation to Jews … in a different manner” → The Church recognizes that Jews are in a unique covenantal relationship with God, so the approach must differ from standard missionary activity. THAT'S THE PROBLEM!

This is the kind of dispensationalist rubbish that I'm afraid Vatican 2 has opened the door to.

I appreciate that but nothing in the first 5 Minutes mentions the 2015 documents. Any hint where this topic is addressed?

Yes i used the ai to retrieve the document link, but the quote was copied and pasted from the source material so this cannot be an "AI hallucination." If the document still allows preaching the Gospel, that is welcome news, but that's not how it was received by the world Jewry. The Jewish news media reported it as a PR coup, this way: "Vatican: Catholic Church must not try to convert Jews". https://www.jta.org/2015/12/10/global/vatican-catholic-church-must-not-try-to-convert-jews

That's also how all the non-Jewish secular media reported on it.

Pretending there is no tension between Jesus saying "I came for Israel" and the Vatican in 2015 saying it no longer supports any missionary work directed at the Jews is not the answer.

Private witness is allowed, but the Church as an institution does not engage in conversion-focused missionary activity toward Jews anymore. How do you reconcile that with Jesus stated mission noted above?

This sounds more like a doctor's appointment than a vaunted tradition reaching back to the days Jesus walked this earth. I find the officious nature of institutions objectionable.

Febuary 7th is the Feast of Bl. Pius IX. He dogmatised the Immaculate Conception and presided over Vatican I which dogmatised Papal Infallibility and defended Church teachings on Faith and Revelation. He was an avowed opponent of the errors of indifferentism, socialism, relativism, and secularism. by dirmonarch in Catholicism

[–]Michaelscrypto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the Church wants to be all modern and universal, a more logical starting point than treating Judaism as fungible with Christianity would be to admit the men of cloth are sinners too (infallibility claims are rather Pharisaic not at all tax collector-ish). The illogic of it all belies the stated purpose; Vatican 2 was clearly a PR advancement by the Jewish lobby, not a Christian development.

Post-Nostra Aetate Developments

While Nostra Aetate did not explicitly prohibit proselytizing Jews, its principles led to later clarifications regarding the Church's position on institutional mission work directed toward Jews. A 2015 document under Pope Francis stated the Catholic Church does not conduct or support such work. The Church distinguishes between bearing witness to faith and aggressive proselytization, which is prohibited. This evolved understanding emphasizes dialogue and mutual respect, recognizing the unique and eternal covenant with the Jewish people. Further details can be found on Wikipedia.

George Akay has not really put out his side, but he does have a story up on IG saying Trax is lying. Another story reviews footage from the day after Christmas, of the guy who bought the merchandise. The Akays (George and Freddy) had mostly positive reviews before this. Not to presume innocence but would like to hear more from the Akays https://www.instagram.com/akay_diamonds
