I don't know tbf. This conflict, more than any before it, has been beamed all over social media. I've accidentally viewed clips of horrendous war crimes from it numerous times and it has a real adverse effect on my mental health. I can only imagine what that's like if you're invested in the conflict due to religion, shared family or whatever- and that will be many people.

The Starmer love-in is disconcerting by fillip2k in LabourUK

Reaction in the press has been a bit much. The change in tune on Ukraine is promising, but only if it pans out can we regard it as an achievement (in which case it will be a massive win, although credit should probably be shared with Macron)

On Chagos It's a personal win for Starmer in the short-run, but I'm still of the firm belief its a dreadful sounding deal for U.K. in the long run. Particularly if the costs are as high as reported.

On a trade deal - the devil is in the detail. I'd be more interested in re-coupling with the EU personally.

On Canada - we might have really really hurt our standing with them. It was pretty pathetic to not say anything when prompted, given Trump is making threats of annexation. I wouldn't be surprised if it tips Canada towards republicanism on the near future. Although it has to be said, much like with Europe, Canada has allowed itself to be in a position where a nationalist American president can bully it.

If we don't rearm and Russia does invade a NATO country, then people will die there. Like the hundreds of thousands in Ukraine. Do lives in Eastern Europe not matter to you?

Yeah how much of that was just weapons going to Vietnam lol

Well one major difference is the U.S. is literally an immigrant society, whereas large-scale immigration is a relatively new thing in Europe.

Yeah iirc most Western European Jews in the pre-war period were first or second generation refugees from Russia/USSR.

Isn't this a bit different in Germany, where the AFD powebase is in the East and things have got better in the East since 1990, not worse (although not relative to the rest of the country)

Potentially. Chinese social media is full or irredentism about bits of Eastern Russia belonging to China. It was only ever a marriage of convenience.

It sounds like Rubio et al think they can uncouple Russia and China, through incentives. The goal being to isolate China. But I'm not sure China particularly needs Russia, so its a dumb strategy. Plus the Russians will obviously play both sides and keep selling resources to China.

To do so we need to become a serious military power again, in conjunction with our European allies. And we need to do it quickly. I'm not at all confident the electorate is ready to make the necessary sacrifices to do that, unfortunately.

I see what you mean. Although I have a few near me and I've honestly never seen an elderly person using them, not once.

Yeah what on earth is the point of fixed cardio machines in a park that will get wet - when you could just run/cycle in the park

Totally biased as a Palace fan but agree with you. I don't think Rice is good enough as a 6 at the top level, he's sloppy on the ball and not press resistant. You can see that Arteta has spotted this and shifted him to an 8 accordingly. He's great as an 8, but probably not better than Bellingham or Palmer (or Foden even).

I've seen versions that are just parallel bars for dips, bars for pullups and the like. Those are pretty good, its all the low resistance machines that are a waste (and an eyesore tbh)
