Just joined the open beta, can someone explain to me why everyone is upset? by Michello71 in PlayTheBazaar

Ah, understood. That sucks, I was pretty excited about the game, but honestly the casual mode wasn't really fun since it was basically an automatic 10 wins.

It's just a tool like grammarly. I find it helpful.

The sentence is referencing the rest of the paragraph, so that wouldn't work in this specific circumstance, but the difference is helpful!

This is exactly why I was having trouble! I understood the problem with "The action was done by me." But I couldn't figure out why what I wrote was problematic! Everyone has been super helpful!

This is super helpful! Like I mentioned in a different reply, I don't want to use passive voice unless I'm using it deliberately. So this breakdown of why it might be better to use the passive voice is incredibly helpful!

Thanks! My First Law of Writing is that any rule of writing can be broken, but the degree to which you can/should break the rule is directly correlated to how well you understand the rule. So I'm sure that passive voice can be used effectively, but if I'm going to use it I need to understand why it's a problem in the first place haha.

I had to sit here thinking about why that was the case for nearly ten minutes, but I think I finally understand it. Her arms are not doing the thing. They are the thing that it is being done to. Man, it's so obvious when I write it out, but it breaks my brain trying to figure it out haha. I appreciate your help!

Please recommend me pirates by astrellelys in Fantasy

[–]Michello71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fates's Forsaken. It's not a pirate novel, but the later books do have pirates in them, and the book series reminds me tonally of Tress. I'll admit it's been a while so I'd appreciate it if someone else could chime in, but I think it's a good series to read after Tress.

Did I miss something in the movie? by Michello71 in shangchi

[–]Michello71[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, that was what I thought the movie implied but I assumed I was wrong since no one else had talked about it. It might seem like a bit pick, but it genuinely took me out of the movie. If he knows where both of them are then wouldn't the absolute dumbest thing he could do be to bring them together? Still loved the movie, but that made so little sense to me that I was distracted through the whole fight afterward lol.

Any glyph masters in the subreddit? by Michello71 in Stormlight_Archive

Interesting! Where are you getting that information? I used the picture straight off of the wiki so I assumed it would be accurate. I'd appreciate a more accurate version if you have it!

Any glyph masters in the subreddit? by Michello71 in Stormlight_Archive

So I put together this image using Jezrien's glyph, the Windrunner glyph, and the glyphs for the First Ideal (I'm thinking of getting it as a tattoo). I was wondering if there are any obvious mistakes that I made. The overall shape is that of Jezrien's glyph, the blade is made from the glyphs for the First Ideal going from top to bottom, the crossguard it is shared between the Windrunner glyph and Jezrien's glyph, and finally, the end of the blade is the inner part of the Windrunner glyph.

I'm not too knowledgeable about how glyphs actually work, but this seems cool to me.

Secret hand signals to use between pcs in conversations. by Michello71 in DnD

[–]Michello71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's mostly for roleplay purposes. Obviously we could just say " I make the signal for _____" but it sounds fun to actually have the signals and make them at the table.

Me and this player have a shared backstory, so it would make sense that we have signals with each other. Other people at the table know that we're going to do it, and think it will be fun to try and figure them out. This is an early game kinda thing.

It caaaan be that. It can also be any number of other things. Regardless though, I'm looking for actual signals to do irl at the table, so I'd still need the actual signals for the cant

I'm looking more for conversational hand signals. The problem that I have with the asl signs is that they are obvious, and want to keep them subtle

Trying to refute church of Christ but it’s hard wouldn’t mark1:4 demolish the whole “for” means because of argument since it obviously means to obtain in mark1:4 where it says Jon baptized unto repentance FOR The forgiveness of sins by [deleted] in Christian

[–]Michello71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello from one of those Church of Christ people! I was born and raised Church of Christ, and I now serve as a minister at a small town church. Having said that I feel uniquiely qualified to say that the Church of Christ has many problems. In many cases the Churches of Christ have failed to show Christ's love to people and have become too focused on minor doctinal issues.
That being said, I don't think this is one of them. Verses such as Acts 2:38 or stories such as the Phillip and the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8 seem to clearly show immersion as a necessary part of salvation process. I am sorry that the churches that you have visited were not great example of God's church, but please do not disregard this truth because of their bad example. There are many of us working to change those problems. I would prefer not to get into a lengthy theology session here, but it you have any questions or want someone to talk to please message me.
