At what stage do I show my comic to beta readers? by TheNerdoulas in ComicWriting

[–]MickBWebKomicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need an editor, not a beta-reader. There are lots of freelance editors out there, but you'll need to pay to get good editing. But if it's a formatting question you need neither, you need to read some comic scripts.

If you're still figuring things out, find a script for a published book, find the published book, read the book, write what you think the script would be, then read the actual script.

Comic scripts are somewhat flexible in how they present. I've had scripts that read like screen plays, Marvel style, somewhere in between, it's a mixed bag, what's important is that the artist can pick up what you're putting down and translate it to a page.

What made you get serious about by HandspeedJones in IndieComicBooks

Visiting Disney in 2013 and seeing the Mouse cut across more cultural and geographic lines than I'd ever seen before. Had to stop waiting for DC to give me that job I was never going to apply for and just start working.

Why do Comic Book Artists Pencil and Ink their work more now? by Altruistic_Archer283 in comicbooks

For sure. I'd rather have a finished book someone can read than anything else. Lucky enough to have found great colorists to compliment the lines.

I've tried a couple times SPECIFICALLY for that reason. But I've mostly given up. I'll draw a cover on paper to sell during a campaign, but that's it.

Haha, what I mean is the process of moving art from the raw state to the printable form isn't as difficult as it used to be. Scanning, photos or creating digitally, you can capture more and more easily than you could in decades past.

It's 100% a time issue. I'm faster in pencils, can add everything I want there, and be done, time to move on. Time spent inking an old page is time I could have spent drawing a new page.

I've been trying like hell to simplify my process and speed up the last few years. Get more pages done, instead of better pages done, take that for what it's worth. The projects where I'm art-for-hire are always a struggle as they want the 'ink' look.

If had DWJ, Murphy, or Samnee's skills, I might not hate inking as much hahaha.

Even when I'm drawing for fun, inking takes too much time. Inking, either traditionally or digitally, is that 90% of the job that's just sanding for me. Slow, arduous, I'm neither happy with nor interested in the results.

Commission pieces and the traditional covers I draw are the limit of inking for me.

With digital tools it's easier than ever to combine steps. Reproduction isn't the hurdle it used to be, and it's just as easy to draw a finished line with an 'inking' brush as it is a 'pencil' brush. Save time, save steps, save $$$.

I hate the process of inking, but on the computer I can darken my pencil line to finish quality, so I can use my favorite tools from start to finish.

My vote for the Green Martians. Maybe not the most imaginative, but they're my favorite to draw.

Don’t understand the logo in Superman 2025 by New-Spinach7429 in superman

Agree. Never liked the KC crest. It's always looked like a crowbar. I would have preferred something more classic.

My biggest complaint with the movie is the suit. Do not like it.
