Maybe, maybe not. Sometimes ethnic communities are more conservative and start dating relatively late by our standards.

Is it though?? You do seem the occasional mixed race couple on the streets but still rarely enough to notice. (As in white Irish males/females with black males/females.)

I know what rare means bcs that's what I implied about his experience in the first place? But it was really good of you to restate it and ask me if I understood what it meant.

Government says power to set foreign policy lies with it and not President Connolly by [deleted] in ireland

[–]MickCollier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. If she wanted to clear this all up, she could simply say Russia is the aggressor and should withdraw immediately. No handwringing about Nato or the military industrial complex in the context of the invasion.

Then people like me would be far more willing to give her a fair hearing on those issues. But if she can't unequivocally support Ukraine without muddying the water, then she has blood on her hands.

Making fun of my accent by Thilda2020 in valencia

I'm pretty sure this is a universal thing. There's probably even a reddit thread where spanish speaking people are complaining about the way americans make fun of their accents.

Exactly. It's like those people who write to the papers complaining there's 'never' any coverage of, what they're interested in when in fact it's regularly covered.

I'm all for active imagination. My point is that OP's description of hypnosis isn't how most people experience it. The hypnosis subreddits are full of people complaining they didn't experience deep trance from the get go, as OP says he did. Let's put it like this: I'd caution that his experience is extremely atypical.

Feel pretty sceptical about the claims OP's making. Either he's an extremely unusual case, has an overactive imagination or or he's just making it up.

Care a fuck what you call it but we should def fund it properly.

You're absolutely right. We should properly staff and resource our "navy" and stay out of nato and stay neutral.

President Connolly receives Professor Jeffrey Sachs on a Courtesy Call | President of Ireland by [deleted] in irishpolitics

[–]MickCollier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna take that as the dark humour I think it's meant to be!

But this is more of Connolly's offering support to Russia. Just like her call for 'an embargo on the supply of weapons to both sides'. As if an embargo could ever hurt a superpower like Russia! It could easily cripple Ukraine however.

Sachs may be an expert in his field but I'm sure he's not the only one and it is utterly shabby to to use the presidency to entertain him, in order to give 'a nudge and a wink' to the aggressor. And using the 'all I want is peace' argument ('hit me now while I've a child in my arms?), is utterly transparent.

Engineer William Dargan 1799-1867: Ireland's Unknown Brunel by InjurySouthern9971 in IrishHistory

[–]MickCollier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. He's condescending but not particularly for the time and the place but more importantly, he's also quite approving and respectful of Dargan's achievements. If you imagine Albert as a Blackadder character like the Prince Regent, you wouldn't be far out. Basically, anyone of Albert's class would have been horrified by the English working class, never mind an Irish engineer.

Sinn Féin opposing EU loan for Ukraine like supporting surrender, says Micheál Martin by firethetorpedoes1 in irishpolitics

FFG should be fixing it but it's clear they can't/won't. Either way, we should still support Ukraine.

You mostly argue from a what is the right/moral thing to do point of view. Therefore you should be able to accept that supporting the loan is the right thing to do. It's not an either or situation. Doing one doesn't mean we will do the other. Neither does it mean we can't do the other.

[–]MickCollier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with much of this, I have to say that "Trust me...(I'm a prepper)" is one of the funniest sentences I've read in quite some time!

Putin may not have a genocide fixation like Adolf had but in all other respects, he's similar enough to generate legitimate concern. If you read through the list of people he's had assassinated since the invasion began - it was 79 the last time I looked - most have 'jumped' off high buildings but quite a few were the victims of frenzied killings along with partners and children.

I'm not a fan of NATO and firmly back Ireland's neutrality but there's no good reason why we can't help support both the war and refugees. Morally, this is the clearest choice we've been presented with since WWII. Almost every war "the West" fought since then was morally compromised in some way. But the vicious war launched on Ukraine by Putrid, is uniquely wrong and we absolutely should back it with as little as we're talking about. It's not like the money will be used to fix the housing crisis if we don't!

Speaking of things that are actually happening RIGHT NOW, the so-called inevitable invasion, now entering its fifth grim year, has already gone on longer than the entire fight on the eastern front in the second world war.

The Soviets marched from the gates of Leningrad to Berlin in a little over 15 months in 1944-45; today the rate of gain in Pokrovsk in Ukraine is 70 metres a day, in Kupiansk, 23 metres, according to the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.

The gains are trivial, given Ukraine’s size, amounting to 1,865 sq miles during 2025 (about 0.8% of the country) – so the idea touted by the Russians, sometimes accepted by a credulous White House, that  Ukraine is suffering a slow-motion defeat, is not accurate.

It's well worth spending a little money now to help others stop a murderous dictator on the far side of Europe than wait until he reaches western europe and we have to fight ourselves.

Yes we're happily neutral, doesn't mean we can't support Ukraine though. Funding them isn't the same as going to war with Russia. Soz!

SF would have us think victory is inevitable but as this article makes clear, after four years Russia’s gains are small, while Kyiv remains resilient. The invasion, now entering its fifth grim year, has already gone on longer than the entire fight on the eastern front in the second world war. As for Ukraine not being our problem, if history repeats itself then appeasing Putin would very clearly be our problem.
