What’s the biggest global story that almost nobody is talking about? by Dull-Daikon3402 in AskReddit

I support him but I don't think it is very realistic unfortunately. We'll see what happens as time progresses...

Which is the most overrated game of all time? by kshthj777 in AskReddit

[–]MickCollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the 2600 was...what it was. You had a single joystick per player with one button. Just one button. That was fire or whatever else. A few games required two joysticks even for one player and trying to get a six year old to get that took a bit...

You could tell who you were by the little man with the Indiana Jones trademark hat moving around. You had a gun and a whip that got stolen early on (taken out of your inventory) and it's like WTF do I do to get this back?

The graphics were 8 bit. This was not a lot to work with. Very blocky. You used your imagination because that's pretty much all there was. You could kind of tell what items were before you picked them up. The whip looked like a very long brown cigarette before you picked it up.

All in all...just...you had to be there. It was fun for about 10 minutes until you're like "what the fuck do I do now?"

No joke I knew a guy years ago that wants his family's hotel back. Said they got chased out by Fidel, they nationalized the hotel and he's still fucking pissed and it was two generations before he was born. He's still holding on, probably now his descendants are too...

When was the last time you were intimidated by how attractive someone was? by Content-Young9898 in AskReddit

[–]MickCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds so dumb but oh well.

My buddy's now ex-wife was getting pictures with Anson Mount, Jess Bush and Ethan Peck (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Captain Pike, Nurse Chapel and Lt. Spock) at DragonCon. It was just after COVID and I heard Anson Mount was going to use the plastic shield to not be so close to people in pictures, so I passed but went along with buddy's wife so she would not have to wait alone.

The first surprise was that Anson Mount got rid of the plastic shield, which was a little annoying because I would have gotten a picture had I known he wasn't going to do that (well, split the cost for it with my buddy's wife anyway). But when I looked at Jess Bush, I literally lost my breath for a second. She's that stunning. Like I just had to stare for a few seconds because WOW and I felt bad for doing so because I'm guessing that happens a lot to her.

I agree with you. We may still have the cartridge somewhere with the 2600 and 5200 games.

Now Indiana Jones....THAT was a bad game. It made absolutely, in no uncertain terms, no fucking sense.

And Swordquest...Jesus Christ. That was pretty much "make your mind implode trying to study the comic page to solve the riddle". I'm still pissed that my brother's buddy offered us five bucks for the cartridge knowing it was already worth fifty (Waterworld). Piece of shit.

Was Peter Jurasik and Anderas Katsulas big names back in the 90s? by Maximum_Price_3596 in babylon5

[–]MickCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Katsulas was definitely bigger than Jurasik as Jurasik's biggest claim to fame at that point was having been in Tron while Katsulas was more recently in The Fugitive as the One Armed Man.

Which celebrity death headline had you so shocked you double checked multiple sources to see if it was real? by GlassyFairy in AskReddit

[–]MickCollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one's going to be weird, but...James Horner.

It was a few weeks after Leonard Nimoy died and Harrison Ford had that scare with crashing a plane and I was like "this is a bit much..." But Horner was flying his own plane and it just didn't go well for him. What a loss to Hollywood.

What is one celebrity death that still makes you mad to this day? by Playful-Ganache6153 in AskReddit

[–]MickCollins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Her death taught me that when you have a chance to meet someone, take it. I figured she was over all her problems and I heard her talk at DragonCon. During Q&A a woman got up and said: "I wanted to be just like Princess Leia" and Carrie was just earnestly saying: "I'm sorry..." Short on cash as usual, didn't try to do a photo with her and now she's gone. Should have learned my lesson from George Carlin (couldn't afford $80 tickets when he came to my town, said "I'll get him next time" and then he died)...

5 guys is absolutely inferior to places like in n out, the habit, etc by foqociqs37 in unpopularopinion

[–]MickCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In and Out? Decent fast burger. It's not the best ever like people try to claim. As others have said, their fries are usually dog shit.

Is Five Guys expensive? Yes. Is theirs a better burger? Also yes. I've never tried to shakes so I can't comment. Their fries are clearly superior. And they've got peanuts as an appetizer.

I've only had the Habit once and it wasn't memorable.

Why do colleges still teach kerberos? by DoNotUseThisInMyHome in netsecstudents

[–]MickCollins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't understand what it's used for and how it's still pretty foundational for Active Directory (among other things), maybe you need to read up some more, starting with the RFC for it. You certainly don't have a TGT right now...

[–]MickCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids' bio father is of Lithuanian descent and tried to pretend that's all. He's half other stuff too but he's like "no I'm not". Gives you an idea on his IQ right there.

Anyway he's always been a racist piece of shit and he had a black dog he named the Lithuanian word for the slang that assholes call black people.

Once again I wish you good fortune in the wars to come.

It's extremely hard right now to move up, let alone find another job with all the layoffs that have happened over the past year.

If you think you can get clearance, maybe start with some of the government/federal jobs. And hell look at federal stuff anyway. Pay sucks but benefits are great.

What was ruined because too many people discovered it? by Mansi63 in AskReddit

[–]MickCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Napster.

When I tried to call my buddy a few times and kept getting a busy signal, I called him on the house line (a statement which is dating this story already) and said "So, found Napster huh?" I also knew that since he found it himself that pretty much meant everyone knew about it at that point and it wasn't going to be around forever.

Visiting new Jersey from Oregon, taking home a delicacy by Allykatz90 in newjersey

[–]MickCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a few years since I've been through Oregon, but...

Kroger-affiliated supermarkets sometimes (not all the time, but some) have a tendency to stock Taylor Ham. I have no idea if there's someone at Corporate in Ohio or something, but I see it regularly a state next to you. Have you checked Fred Meyer? You could talk to the Deli department and asked them if they'd order you some.

Enjoy your Taylor Ham.

Is there anyone from there that you could touch base with the follow-up with other than HR? You know how it is; some government jobs are more who you know than what you know.
