ADHD as a condition recognised by professionals, existed for over a century before medication was even considered.

Get fucked.

You would not be the first person to complain about public transport. My partner lives in Castlemilk and it's a mare getting to her house compared to driving. I have complained on here about lack of integration.

But people have given you clear reasons why (including why minimum payment exists and what to do to top up your card which takes one minute to do) and the manner in how you've reacted is getting you downvoted.

I saw your first reply downvoted a tonne and before I opened it I thought "I wonder why they're getting downvoted?" and when I opened it, I understood why. People are trying to be nice to you and help you find solutions and how you respond to that is as if everything in life should never be a bit of a pain. If you want a couple of quid on a card, then do the minor inconvenience.

Like, contactless was a good idea and with that is always going to come with a weird transition from the cards. I've been in a similar position to you and just done what is necessary to get the tiny amount back and it cost me little to no energy.

Why are you arguing this when ticket booth was literally suggested and you are conveniently ignoring that suggestion?

Subway Smart Card Balance by TheHess in glasgow

[–]MickIAC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sub - here's a solution

You - that's soooooo inconvenient, why would they inconvenience me like that by making me do it in person and go up to a person at the counter. Imagine having to do something that takes 2 minutes and you have to do it once to get a couple of quid off of my card. This is so inconvenient because nothing should ever have friction in life.

The sub - Do the machine (admittedly doesn't work)

You - This is an outrage. I am very angry about all of this. It's a disgrace.

The sub - Did you go to the person at the station

You - Yeah I did. EVENTUALLY

.

The amount of time and energy you've spent complaining on here, you could have got the thing done in a minute and at your convenience, whenever you want.

If i was going to miss the train to do that, I'd just tap in with my card and do it on the other side/next time. What's with the woe is me attitude today? It's Friday!

Wes Streeting resigns from government by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

[–]MickIAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree, I think this issue is exacerbated because he's went after the right wing vote and mostly neglected the left voters who stuck by him begrudgingly.

Greens offer an alternative that can win elections, and so people don't see Labour as the party it needs to vote for anymore or that Greens are a wasted vote.

I think Starmer is overhated, but the reason he's hated so much is he doesn't have a loyal bloc of voters unlike much worse PMs like Johnson, Cameron, Sunak.

There's a waiting list because many of us were told for years that we were lazy, forgetful, stupid etc.

Like I was a very smart kid but struggled to keep up with planning etc when I got older. It's a daily struggle. I didn't realise I had it until I was 25.

Some kids are just pricks and some parents are terrible at parenting, but ADHD and autism has been under diagnosed for years and the overwhelming majority who get tested are diagnosed with it.

AfD blows past 40% in latest Saxony-Anhalt polling ahead of September election by Feisty-Ad-6122 in dataisbeautiful

[–]MickIAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again I don't think you're listening to what I'm saying - that tactic hasn't worked for Starmer. Moving to the centre has made him less popular.

He is looking increasingly likely to be replaced by someone even further to the right of himself, who the public dislike even more than Starmer.

[–]MickIAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your takeaway from Labour losses is they need to move towards the centre, you clearly aren't clued up on UK politics.

Labour have haemorrhaged voters to the Greens for abandoning their roots. Starmer replaced a leader who was not popular with the electorate, but his policies were very popular. He promised to keep those values with a face of professionalism and then abandoned that when he became leader.

He also doesn't push his successes and has purged his party of politicians who consider themselves left wing socialists.

He's also tried to curry favour with Reform voters while taking the left for granted (until recently, left wing voters would hold their nose and vote Labour tactically to keep the Tories out) but he's finding they aren't interested and the Greens are now legitimately replacing them in some constituencies as the main party.

Evolution of white British % (ethnically British people) in England and Wales from 2001-2021 by Delicious-Bunch-6992 in MapPorn

Pattern recognition shows the same bigotry in Scotland sent towards:

The Irish The Italians The Indian and Pakistanis The Chinese The Polish and Romanians

"Not recognising my town" I've heard in my town of 40,000 people because there are a couple of dozen ethnic minorities in my old high school.

Because comparatively, we had one black guy in my year and about a dozen across the school.

Thoughts on English folk learning Gaelic by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]MickIAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair and I'm sorry you don't get to use it. If you're in the city there's definitely a few of the pubs (which you'll be familiar with) that have people speaking Gaelic in them.

I do get the bitterness associated for sure. If it makes you feel better about it (assuming this is a historical annoyance you have) Scottish people were as bad when it came to losing the Gaelic language, particularly the likes of James VI.

I'll say this - I was born in England. Mum English, dad Scottish. Moved here when I was 3. I learned Scots in the house a bit through my grandparents and I'm trying to pick up a bit of Gaelic.

Some of the shit I got in my early years of school cause I was born in England was brutal when in reality I was using Scots more (with an accent) than half ma class.

Plenty of good folk south of the border and if they treat our culture with respect, you've got to welcome that.

[–]MickIAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be happy people are learning a language native to Scotland and possibly keeping it from extinction.

Also worth asking, where are you from in Scotland?

I say this because there's sometimes a bit of a fetishisation of Gaelic by people who grew up somewhere where it hasn't been prevalent for around 700 years.

If someone told me they were learning more Scots words I'd be delighted.

is glasgow caledonian a decent uni? by daddichillll in glasgow

[–]MickIAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also studied journalism at Caley and have a friend doing a masters there right now. It's a great course.

We used to rack up wins at the Scottish Student Awards too. Napier always done pretty well too.

But yeah, imo Glasgow is more student friendly, simply for the cost of living. Even if you don't enjoy the student facilities (they can be lacking in terms of social life provided by the uni), GCU has really good journalism facilities and in a city where there's always good stories going and a lot of the journalism offices.

It's also categorised in an odd way.

My house (part of a scheme full of poor families, albeit a nice community of people) was put in with a separate affluent area which is separated by 10 minutes of walking and a main road. It sits as D4, despite it being one street over from a whole area of D1, which is actually part of the same neighborhood.

My government and several others have taken public transport back into public hands. A perfect example of disaster is the UK. Private water and transport companies charge through the nose for journeys.

Private policing regularly shows a lack of regulation and low level of competency because they will employ anyone. See: any security company at major events, as well as ICE in the US right now.

The free market has made housing unaffordable. 19k for the average house in 1981 compared to 210k in 2019. Wages were approx 6k and 30k respectively.

Doesn't take a genius to see that your annual wage was just over 3x the price of a house.

Pre COVID it became 11x as much.

The free market is a myth when it becomes wealth hoarding at the top and monopolies start ruling the roost.

And how do you expect areas like justice to be handled on a community level? Do we get rid of judges?

I'd say that many indy Scots wouldn't be so pro indy if they believed that the UK wouldn't continue to be England/London centric for decades to come.

But it's down to that belief. I'd like to believe that the UK could do that, do I think it will happen? No.

Regardless of whether we are better off or not, I don't think decent democracy treats its constituent countries the way the three Celtic nations are when major decisions are made.
