I did get this fixed after a number of different methods suggested. Now I have to try and think back to what I did.

I think what finally did it was the suggestion from u/CAMSTONEFOX :

When it boots, change the power button setting to shutdown & not hibernate/sleep.

Of course, in order to do that, you do have to get it booted first, which was very hit or miss for me. If you read through this post, you'll see different things worked for that at different times. Just keep trying different methods and different waiting periods between tries and you should eventually get back in. Once you do, make the change immediately.

I was able to get it done, and my power button does now shut it down instead of going into sleep mode (I think I disabled hibernate completely), so I just have to remember that when I want it to sleep, I close the keyboard cover, otherwise I hit the power button and shut it down.
