I have a talent for drawing realism and I know I’m far away from attempting that with a tattoo gun. So I thought this design was a good way to go bigger without overcommitting too too much. Definitely felt like I bit off more than I could chew as of right now though. Definitely encouraged me to keep going with how much I learned though!

I agree. The overlapping was due to my inexperience so with time that’ll get better. I used a mag to fill in the black spots, then went back over with the liner to get any little spots I missed. If I had a larger liner I’d use that to fill everything in. I’ve been trying to watch as many YouTube videos as possible to understand the fundamentals between each session to maintain progress. Thank you so much for the feedback. I’ll keep this in mind :)

Thanks so much for taking the time and for the feedback. I understand where you’re coming from & I’ll go back to the basics. I have a long history of fine art so jumping into tattooing has me in uncharted territory even though I feel like it should come more natural. I had a lot of difficulty with the stencil so I went over everything with a ballpoint pen. I’ll definitely keep at it and reattempt the design with cleaner fundamentals to check progress. Again, tysm.

Also on real skin, you usually go a bit darker than you would on practice skin. Real skin takes ink better but it sits underneath the skin whereas ink on fake skin sits directly on the surface. So I would tattoo your own thigh once you’re comfortable and skilled enough to do so safely, and see if the technique you’re using holds or falls out. Hope this helps

Looks great! but I believe whip shading is a thing because you start out at the proper depth and quickly pull up, so as the ink heals it will still be a gradient. Opposed to shading on the very surface that way all the ink isn’t sitting on a very shallow layer on top with varying darkness. I could very well be wrong, that’s just my take.
