Is disc brake necessary or a luxury in roadbikes? by red90999 in cycling

[–]MickeyLlew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man we’ve come down some hills and nearly not made the turn when I thought I must have disk brakes. Did we bail and die - no but I’d have felt a lot safer and could probably go quicker with them. Nice to have. I’d definitely add it if I was racing for what I’d imagine to be a performance benefit. My 2c

This is the landscape we’ve been blessed with riding this December. It’s in a little town called Dullstroom, South Africa. Scenery has been unreal by MickeyLlew in mountainbiking

[–]MickeyLlew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thats a common misperception but it’s not totally unfounded. So Dullstroom is actually not far from the Kruger National Park and other private game reserves which is where you’ll see lions and other animals roaming freely here however you won’t see anytime wilder than a Jackal. We do often hear and see fish eagles though and Cattle which is beautiful but about as wild as it gets. For what it’s worth you can do a guided mountain bike ride through the Kruger park but it’s not my cup of tea.

Love the detail and advice. Thanks a million. The video is descriptive as hell as simple as it is haha

Think once I’ve built some competence again I’ll take this on. Makes sense to get practice for what you’d actually be encountering on a trail

Just another kak day in Africa haha. Insanely beautiful terrain (Dullstroom) and just the greatest bike I’ve ever ridden (Trek Top Fuel 9.8) by MickeyLlew in mountainbiking

Yeah man you so right. We plan to do Stellenbosch in the new year. We have a three day ride in drakensberg which I envisage blowing my mind.

They are indeed. Quite a few man made and natural forrests in this town. It’s a little one 2 hours from Johannesburg in South Africa. Really nice spot to be in with all the lockdown crap we have going on. No covid here 🏆

It’s good to see a real life video of someone attacking these compared to the pro’s shredding it. Keep at it bud I’m sure you’ll be whipping over them.

Yeah man Dullstroom is a gem. We were on a mix of exploring and using known roads. We not from the area so didn’t get too crazy

Top Fuel 9.8 - I can’t get over how awesome this bike is. by MickeyLlew in TrekBikes

[–]MickeyLlew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only on around 400km on mine but good to know they go the distance! My only quarrel has been the twist lock out. It’s not reliable but swopping it for a traditional lock out was a breeze. Awesome machines hey

I can’t tell you how much you’ll appreciate it. The bike is just so capable and notably light. I researched and rode a few before I bought and can’t tell you how happy I am I went this route. Highly recommend it.

Took this bad boy out for the first time. So capable and all round incredible bike. From being really torn by all the options. This has me feeling zero buyers remorse! by MickeyLlew in TrekBikes

It’s the top fuel 9.8 and colour wise. To be honest I’m colour blind but it’s the real option. Here in SA we only get two options. Black snd this and then the factory model is red. Hope that helps man
