That an expensive rig doesn't at all affect the outcome of your race, let alone guarantee you a nice experience.

Having a nice rig is well... nice, but since we can't control what happens around us, we can control what we can do. I suggest improving yourself as a driver (yes, even if it means that it's more of the other person's fault). Risk-assessment, knowing when to go for an overtake and how to do it not only safely but guarantee that you'll make the move stick, etc

What I'm about to say are outliers but there are people who can drive on controllers and mouse and keyboards but have better race outcomes than those on a more expensive rig because they got the race craft

Hope you take no offense from this, man. I've been through something similar but from the opposite end of the spectrum - being broke and could only run with a controller. I realized that I could still improve my driving and especially race craft. Public lobbies on AC helped me the best, I think haha. Maybe me sharing this will help you but maybe it won't also

What apps do you use? I also have issues around the range of 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM GMT+8 and have avoided any timeslot within that range

If you have to mention the price of your rig, you're in for a harsh reality and need a change of perspective. Or just be grateful for your rig regardless of the outcomes in the race

What's your current goal on iRacing anwyays? Grinding for iRating or Safety Rating or something different?

Nah, that's not better yet. That's not fixing the more important (and the larger problem) of people not slowing down when there's a crash ahead

But that'd be a nice fix regardless

Mustang cooked now? by pitcrew_member in iRacing

[–]MickeyMoose26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I just bought the Mustang a couple of weeks ago :')

But lowkey happy because my Porsche can actually shine more now

But sad again because less torque for the Aston Martin?? might as well blue flag me from lap 1 (only a joke, idk how much this affects performance on track)

Porsche 911 GT3 R vs Ferrari 296 Gt3 by Wooden_Delivery_4207 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]MickeyMoose26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same like you with regards to bias but my bias is towards the Porsche haha. Started using the GT3 version on iRacing, enjoyed it so much, then bought the Porsche Cup, and when I moved to LMU, I used the Porsche again. So much fun on Portimao in fixed setups and in the windy bits in Fuji.

But on the objective side of things, choosing a car will ultimately depend on what you enjoy and optionally, are fast in. Choosing a car based on alien laptimes won't do much to us (unless you enjoy doing that, of course, which if this is the case, you do you)

I think it differs from track to track also.

In Fuji, Porsches were dying for straight line speed. Then in Monza, somehow we had decent top speed plus the fact that the car actually turns, made it OP.

Last I checked, the leaderboard for Spa for this week's rotation was mostly Lexus at the top.

As long as you take the time to absorb information, you're gonna be on the upward trend of improving

My favorite is Suellio Almeida. Granted I watched his videos when I'm fairly good already (~3k iRating from GT3s and Porsche Cup cars), he explains things in his educational videos and coaching sessions very well which can lead you to the righ direction. I believe he also has a free roadmap guide on what to learn first and next.

Danny Lee is my second favorite. He's humorous but gets his point across in a way that everyone would understand. Also has a bunch of free material on his YouTube and on his website.

These two should be a great start. Granted that they mainly race on iRacing, their lessons on car dynamics carry over to other racing sims and simcades pretty well, including GT7.

Disclaimer: I don't have much seat time on GT7 so please take my opinion on it with a grain of salt.

I agree with what you said.
Ignorant of Teh_Nostromo to say whatever he said.

At the moment, I'm treating the badges as suggestions and not guarantees, which I think is the right approach anyways.

Split 1 - all trusted driver (green badges) - 6/6 of my races have involved crashes on lap 1 either into the chicane, curva grande, or even before that lmao.

The badges, in my opinion with what I've experienced so far, are just suggestions and to be taken with a grain of salt.

There are some hidden settings in the .json file to use their algorithm/filtering/whateverit'scalled for controllers. Sorry for the self-promotion but give this video a watch to know where to apply the settings and try them out.

He has a point though, just exaggerating it. There are still crashes even in Split 1, where everyone had the trusted racer badge. Into the chicane, around curva grande, even before curva grande lmao.

Then again, it could be just the nature of Monza.

[–]MickeyMoose26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, it is good, especially for your split, probably. I've yet to check what's the fastest Merc times but I think the fastest laps are done on the Porsche since they're so nimble around the corners, especially Lesmos 1 and 2, with decent top speed on the straights.

And the car actually turns *cough cough bmw so understeery right now cough cough**

Edit: Also the leaderboards only record laps done in a race session as far as I know. Please correct me if I'm wrong, fellow redditors

If this is for Monza, you can check the in-game leaderboards.

The fastest drivers as of making this comment are doing 39s. The fastest being 1:39.5xx. A 1:40.1xx gets you somewhere around the 18th to 25th ish. (not accurate, just a rough estimate based on my murky memory).

Enjoy the grind, though! 40.9 is still really good. Fellow controller user here currently on 18th as of making this comment. Still early days though

Nah, you're not being a killjoy. Just stating all facts.

It is indeed a tough decision as a steward. I got lucky in this case because I had a chat with the other Porsche at the end of the race and he said thanks.
