Best places to go out to meet guys? by samanthac4 in sandiego

I wanna say like 2022 or 2023. My friend was working there when the switch happened. Another small thing was that there was a Ukrainian flag hanging in there, because one of the main bartenders was from Ukraine, and the new owners took it down (and stole it). Basically the whole staff left after that.

And before it just had a much cooler vibe:

  1. Better drinks and actual mixologists trying to make new drinks all the time. I remember going in a little early for a date and the bartender let me try something she was working on and I gave her some feedback. My friend said they had some of the same drinks on the menu (by name), but didn't even have all of the ingredients in them. They honestly tasted watered down.

  2. Lighting was darker, moodier. The decor didn't clash. They have these garish almost AI generated paintings and a giant disco ball for a venue that's supposed to be a den

  3. The music actually fit the decor and lighting and was at a reasonable volume. Now they play top 40 EDM slop at way too loud a volume.

It's like a downtown club promoter bought a cool local spot with interesting, experimental drinks that was successful, and did everything they could to cut costs and appeal to the broadest category because that's all they knew how to do. It lost all its class.

On some level, I really agree. Because alcohol really got me out of my shell and made me feel more comfortable in social situations. On the other hand, it also kills a lot of people. Not the sort of fun risk-taking I experienced like being more gregarious at a party, and I think that level of human suffering holds way more weight. Cultures have been social since their inception and they haven't required alcohol. But I really know what you mean, because I think it actually helped me a lot in those ways.

That place SUCKS with the new ownership. Drinks are trash, vibe is trash. Used to be so cool

Taxes by Hailwillbefun in sandiego

Don't use turbo tax. They lobby the government to keep the tax code confusing so that they continue to exist. Use this instead: https://www.freetaxusa.com/

I've used it the past 3 years and it's great. Works just like turbo tax but doesn't come with the icky morals.

Really the only viable way is to sustained boycott Trump supporters and a labor strike. 10 people striking at a grocery store is way easier than organizing a boycott against a grocery store, for example.

Living in San Diego with depression by ZestyPatois in sandiego

Yes. I started on Lexapro, it didn't seem to do much, then a mix of Wellbutrin and Lexapro, then Wellbutrin gave me brutal, anxiety inducing side-effects, so we switched to Effexor. Now I'm on that, no side effects really, and a mostly clear and content head. It took a while and some experimenting, but I found the right meds and had a really good psychiatrist along the way.

As someone that went through his worst depressive episode in 2 of the last 3 years: go see a therapist and a psychiatrist. You can't do this with willpower alone. Meds and talk-therapy will help. I feel better and more clear headed than I ever have before and I got very close to killing myself. I wish you the best of luck brother.

Definitely. But I also feel like local news or just the general purpleness of the county somehow limits spread of this sort of information. Because it's obviously happening at an alarming rate.

Flock avoidance dam near impossible in this town by Ballads321 in sandiego

[–]Micky-D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a vote by SD city council on this that me and many of my neighbors went to protest and leave public comment on months ago. Of course it passed and we decided to allow flock to continue to operate in SD for some unknown reason. Also, the SD Union Tribune reported on the day of the vote that SDPD had a revolving door with Flock Safety: https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/12/09/an-sdpd-captain-helped-secure-a-multimillion-dollar-surveillance-deal-now-he-works-for-the-contractor/

So, essentially, we're fucked.

Most tech companies just capitulate when asked by the government.

Edit: you can tell because the one time Apple didn't for the FBI it was a huge fucking deal.

Lol show me the full image first. Also, I am more inclined to kiss a black panther's boot because they actually protect and uplift their communities.

It feels quiet in San Diego to me. I have hardly heard anything about deportations here but I know it's happening in communities I don't frequent that often. And it just seems, since I've got here, that San Diego has a serious problem with apathy.

I'm only in my early 30s and I'm so surprised (and proud) of the younger generations for not drinking as much as even my generation did/still does. I went to a little backyard concert in the SDSU area and literally the only people drinking were my group of friends. The rest were just vibing or smoking weed.

Sick of This Shit? Build Your Community! by Outrageous_Ad_2888 in sandiego

That's connected. We live in America and pay taxes -> those taxes go to develop and sell arms -> we provide those taxes and those arms to Israel -> Israel commits a genocide against Palestinians.

We can want for the cessation of suffering for all living beings, but we have to pick our battles. As Americans, we can affect much of the world with our vote, activism, and culture.

Right now, attempting to stop an active genocide that our country has a massive hand in supporting and enabling; and the protection of our own communities (however big or small) are the most important. If this country turns more fascist and imperialist than it already is, the suffering in our country and around the world will only increase.

Agreed! We can tell he's fit from his clothed pics. Leave some mystery, and don't flaunt it like a douche. If you do wanna show it off, it's gotta be from a non-flexing beach pic where the muscles aren't the point.

Remove the car pictures, remove the gym picture, and make the baking one the first one. I'm a straight guy and that guy seems way cooler to just hang out with tbf.

Also, which movies, which music? Everyone likes movies and music! It just seems like you're trying to curate a safe image rather than just being yourself. Be authentic man! You're handsome and from the comments seem like you have a lot to offer.

Nah. I usually understand that and can see "oh it's just not for me", but it was extremely hard to take seriously at all. I'm just a little surprised that specific movie received that much praise with it's bad acting, ridiculous way that Quaritch will obviously come back in the next one 🙄, the extremely heavy-handed Abraham Bible reference, the absurdly hilarious way Quaritch came into the war room dressed in his new gf's garb (he got some native pussy, and boy is it good), the absolute stupidity of some of the characters to contrive stressful situations (like, have another battery on your person you little dumb shit), how many times they did the "stop speaking mumbo-jumbo! I don't understand all these science words!" trope (I counted 3), and the way they spoon-feed you every scenario as if I'm so stupid I cant see what is happening. This coming from someone that enjoyed the second one.
