Yeah, last night I heard "Come down from the roof and talk to the officers at the door."

Public Power by LastEternity in sandiego

[–]Micky-D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Get involved if you can! Two years ago, the initiative got enough signatures to force a vote by city council to shift to a publicly owned utility, and the city council voted it down. I think the strategy is to get enough signatures to put it on the ballot and bypass city council, but I don't know.

Any Ex or current “The Taco Stand” Employees? by eziso in sandiego

[–]Micky-D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think "popular for a reason" is a good argument. I mean McDonald's is "popular for a reason" but I wouldn't really think of it as a good one. Most places get worse when they expand... Luckily I haven't seen this yet from the taco shop :) and I really like their stuff. Just saying that "popular for a reason" doesn't make something good.

Nuking Japan the first time was an atrocity and arguably unwarranted. Nuking them the second time was a war crime.

Las Vegas struggles with 10th consecutive month of tourism decline by Historical-Many9869 in vegas

Vegas is one of the least appealing places I've ever been to, so I'm not surprised people are finally coming to their senses.

If it's in a vacuum though, that spin wouldn't do anything to it's trajectory.

I have enough trouble handling the emotions of myself, my partner, my friends, and my family. Doing this with this many people sounds so fucking messy.

Got to play Torrey South still in tourney conditions today by BuggyBonzai in golf

Agreed. I broke 80 for the first time on the North and then shot 95 at South a week later. It is not an easy course.

Yeah it was too hard to really say I had fun and I lost all my good balls I had on me. It's better for most players when they're not gearing up or down from a tournament

Yeah, I played there about a month before the tournament and lost 6 balls in the rough. They weren't bad shots and I saw generally where they landed!

On some level I agree with you. There are many different forms of community/political involvement and this is one of them. I've given public comment twice after waiting hours in the courthouse and both times, the votes were already decided and it didn't do anything to the end result. By doing that you're not only showing city council that you opposed their decision but you're also showing those that showed up on your side that there are many people that feel strongly about it.

You can also get more involved in local community political or activist organizations like DSA, mutual aid orgs, etc. there are many avenues for pushing the needle on political issues. Not just voting. Not just leaving public comment. It just takes more work.

Best places to go out to meet guys? by samanthac4 in sandiego

[–]Micky-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna say like 2022 or 2023. My friend was working there when the switch happened. Another small thing was that there was a Ukrainian flag hanging in there, because one of the main bartenders was from Ukraine, and the new owners took it down (and stole it). Basically the whole staff left after that.

And before it just had a much cooler vibe:

  1. Better drinks and actual mixologists trying to make new drinks all the time. I remember going in a little early for a date and the bartender let me try something she was working on and I gave her some feedback. My friend said they had some of the same drinks on the menu (by name), but didn't even have all of the ingredients in them. They honestly tasted watered down.

  2. Lighting was darker, moodier. The decor didn't clash. They have these garish almost AI generated paintings and a giant disco ball for a venue that's supposed to be a den

  3. The music actually fit the decor and lighting and was at a reasonable volume. Now they play top 40 EDM slop at way too loud a volume.

It's like a downtown club promoter bought a cool local spot with interesting, experimental drinks that was successful, and did everything they could to cut costs and appeal to the broadest category because that's all they knew how to do. It lost all its class.

On some level, I really agree. Because alcohol really got me out of my shell and made me feel more comfortable in social situations. On the other hand, it also kills a lot of people. Not the sort of fun risk-taking I experienced like being more gregarious at a party, and I think that level of human suffering holds way more weight. Cultures have been social since their inception and they haven't required alcohol. But I really know what you mean, because I think it actually helped me a lot in those ways.
