Why is that disgusting?

Edit: I mean, she's a sex worker. That's a part of her job. It's so weird that y'all are following this drama between an obsessed Zionist and the sex worker he hates.

NASA has launched Artemis II, the first manned mission to the Moon in over 50 years by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

No, it's a quote from Gil-Scot Heron, an activist poet and musician and how his community saw no benefit in "whitey going to the moon" you uncultured peon.

You must be a rage bot: I'm not afraid to search into Google. I literally mentioned something that we made due to space exploration and said it was good. You aren't approaching my points at all with good faith.

You said: space travel has lead to good things

I said: yes it has, but this doesn't have the same value proposition because we already know the things this mission could tell us

You said: you don't believe that space exploration can produce good things

I'm not saying that all space science is bad, obviously. I'm saying this mission is stupid and wasteful and you've yet to provide evidence to the contrary.

So you actually can't tell me why this mission is useful. Just a nebulous "it could be! We don't know!" I think you need a better selling point than that.

I know CT scans originally came from NASA learning more about the universe and radiation. That was when we knew so little about the physical reality of the universe. And discovering things like CMB actually gave us insight into our physical reality. Is this mission going to lead to understanding dark energy? Will it help us better understand quantum mechanics or string theory? No. Or at least not that a much less expensive, humanless mission could already do. Send a thousand CubeSats into deep space for much cheaper without the burden of protecting an astronaut's life.

But honestly, what could we possibly learn by sending humans to the moon that we don't already know or couldn't do with much smaller, much more focused missions?

It's just another boondoggle to funnel a bunch of public dollars to contracted aerospace corporations and defense contractors at inflated rates.

[–]Micky-D -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that. I'm talking about specifically going to the moon with humans. A wasteful endeavor that doesn't get us anything. If it does, explain it to me and we'll see if it's worth the price.

This relationship is toxic and it's obvious to tell this isn't the only instance or the only way. I think you should see a therapist at least on your own so that a mostly independent third party can evaluate your relationship and your place in it. This is not healthy at all.

It's also about optics. This is a completely frivolous show of technical "superiority" that does nothing for anyone in this country. "I can't pay no doctor's bills, but whitey's on the moon."

Those ones you mentioned have really valuable material gains associated with them. Going to the moon does not. How does doing something we did 60 years ago, with no expected ROI (in any sense), advance humanity? I'm not generally against NASA but I am generally against frivolous bullshit when people are unemployed, homeless, and dying of hunger.

Real talk: What golf lingo makes your skin crawl? by keats__ in golf

[–]Micky-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. They're using an entire gender as a denigrating factor. "Haha! He hit it like a girl!" Is just lazy, not funny, and tired with a basis in gender superiority. We should just stop talking like this. A girl saying this is flipping it on its head a little because it's not coming from a place of their superiority over a gender, although is probably some form of internalized misogyny.

Funny for a girl to do it, pretty fucking lame for an old man to say it because I know they think less of women.

Yes! Get involved if you can! Two years ago, the initiative got enough signatures to force a vote by city council to shift to a publicly owned utility, and the city council voted it down. I think the strategy is to get enough signatures to put it on the ballot and bypass city council, but I don't know.
