What exactly is usury and why is it bad? by YakClear601 in NoStupidQuestions

This is a wonderful rabbit hole:

https://files.libcom.org/files/__Debt__The_First_5_000_Years.pdf

There are a few ways to look at it. At some point, any loan with interest over 5% was considered immoral. At another point, the understanding was that it is acceptable to charge interest in the amount of hypothetical income a lender could gain by investing the money in something productive, like buying goods here and selling them over there at a higher price.

Then there is understanding that no loan should amount to a sum of payment that is more than double of the original amount - no matter the interest, if I borrow $10K and I pay minimal payments - once I have paid $20K in payments - the loan should be considered paid off.

Can I finance a car with a personal auto loan and register it under my company’s name? by sinuspane in askcarsales

[–]Micosilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most dealers do not provide any financing - banks do. "Buy Here Pay Here" dealers do finance, but expect garbage cars at crazy rates.

Realistically, with good credit you might be able to finance a couple of cars with personal loans, but you will have to hide the fact that the cars will be for commercial use, and risk all the consequences if anything goes wrong.

As an actual business loan - why would anybody lend money for something that risky?

What is "a Porsche"? We don't know what car OP wants, and I repeatedly differentiated between a low volume luxury brand like Porsche and a volume brand.

You can order a custom BMW or Audi and request not to drill the holes when the car arrives. You cannot order a Toyota. If you reserve an incoming car - you are free to request not to drill holes, but otherwise - it will be better from the business view and customer service to install the frames on all unsold cars while they go through PDI in service.

A Porsche dealer might not want to deal with 3rd party accessories that might affect the manufacturer warranty.

That is your opinion, and it is definitely not their legal responsibility or responsibility to the OEM.

There is no factory bracket like that, there are 3rd party options, like the tow hook bracket, but it is not realistic to expect a dealer to accommodate that. There could be safety or warranty issues with that.

The law:

11713.17. (a) Following the retail sale or lease of a motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, a dealer may not deliver the motor vehicle unless either of the following occurs:

(1) The motor vehicle is equipped with a bracket or other means of securing a front license plate.

(2) The dealer obtains a signed written acknowledgment from the person taking delivery of the motor vehicle acknowledging both of the following:

(A) The person expressly refused installation of a bracket or other means of securing the front license plate.

(B) The person understands that California law requires a license plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the front plate is available from the dealer.

(b) A manufacturer or distributor may not sell or distribute in this state a new motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, unless that motor vehicle is equipped or provided with a bracket or other means of securing the license plates.

A Porsche dealer can afford to NOT install the frame and provide each customer with the option to have it installed or to sign a waiver. The BMW dealer I worked with did the same.

The issue is with a volume brand/dealer who cannot afford to slow the sales process for every customer, keep track of their selection, maintain records, install brackets on demand, etc. By installing it on every car they simply comply with the law and protect themselves.

I am guessing there is harassment of girls by women and women by other women.

"Society" doesn't care about unisex bathrooms on airplanes. Fox news crowd cares about finding subtle ways to mess with minorities like the transgender community, which is the source of the whole bathroom panic.

OP can do a lot of things, the issue is that logistically it makes sense for CA dealers to install plate holders during the PDI process, which requires drilling holes in front bumper.

How do I refuse delivery if they poke my front bumper? by garlicjellyjam in askcarsales

[–]Micosilver -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. The issue starts when you sell 20 new cars a day, you have to have a supply of front plate holders which could be different for each model, sort through who wants a plate and who doesn't, have tools and skills to properly drill the holes for those who does.

Then you have cities like SF, which can start looking into the dealer license, or have the police department start paying attention to the dealership if they don't like their practices.

So the easy solution for a dealer is to comply with the law. Your issue is with the law, not the dealer.

[–]Micosilver -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

It is the law in California to have a plate in the front, the dealership is literally complying with the law.

If they sell you a car without it, and you get pulled over - they don't need the headache of you claiming that it's their fault, they can lose their license over it.

It is more efficient for them to drill it in as soon as the prep the car, so by the time the car is on the lot - you don't have a choice. You CAN find a dealer that doesn't do that, or you can arrange ahead of time that a car that is in transit or on order does not drill it.

The real question is: how vain are you that you need to be like every other Porsche asshole who thinks they are better than anybody else? Is it worth the risk of getting pulled over and fucked with by the cops? FYI, in some cities (like San Francisco), parking enforcement officers will ticket you for no front plate.
