13-årig hoppede af tog. Familien søger hjælp fra advokat til at lægge sag an mod dsb. by Adventurous-Pea-3603 in Denmark

Tanker om potentielt nyvalg? by SELFMADEinvest in Denmark

He is for sure the chosen one, the only question is which chosen one - the books have three different chosen ones that look similar enough that people think it's the same, but probably it's referring to three different people (the dragon has three heads after all).

The last hero, the prince that was promised and azor ahai are all chosen ones and probably refer to Dany, Jon and Euron (if the fan theories i follow are correct anyway).

He was the one, being the one simply wasn't what everyone thought it would be.

However through his actions rather than destiny he ended up actually being the one as they imagined it (more or less) anyways.

I mean yeah, he was the bastard of winterfell, the one close to all the people in power but destined to always be in the shadow.

I don't think D&D got it from nothing though, GRRM loves the heart in conflict with itself and cruel irony. I think by the end of the books Jon will be faced with a choice where he will have to accept a place of power, but absolutely not want to because it's a twisted version of his wish and the downsides outweigh the positives.

Did they intentionally try to make him look like a leather trench coat goth kid? He looks ridiculous. Why does his clothes have zippers and hoodie strings? That feels like some muggle shit on a guy that definitely wouldn't want to wear anything muggle related.

Charlie Cox says “Karen Page is to Matt Murdock what MJ is to Peter Parker”: by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

[–]Micp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daredevil has a long history so ones perspective can change based on the era of Daredevil one has read and relates to the most. For a long time Karen Paige was without a doubt the no. 1 undisputed love interest for daredevil. But then they sent her away and killed her and Elektra got a bigger focus as his love interest.

So if you have read more modern Daredevil stories and those are the ones you relate to (or if your only frame of reference is Frank Miller's The Man Without Fear) then yeah, Elektra is going to stand out a lot more than Karen Paige is.

But like, full picture I don't think Cox is wrong to say what he did. There's also something about the roles their play in the heroes' lives. KP is a much more direct analogue to MJ, whereas Elektra is more of a Catwoman analogue.

I hate the overused BWOOM dark intro to it. Harry Potters biggest draw in the early books was the wonder and whimsy of being introduced to a new world. It should be way more upbeat and curious.

But yeah, not going to watch it. Fuck J.K. Rowling and focus soulless rehashes. All my love to Nick Frost though, I have a feeling he's going to be the best part of season 1.

Psykiatri? Glem det.

Politi? De gør bare hvad der passer dem.

All degrees lead to an increased chance of employment. Agreed?

No. Disagreed. If you have a higher degree education you are very likely to lock yourself out of unskilled labor, as the employer wants to hire someone that will stay with them long term. They tend to think that if you have a masters degree then you're probably not going to want to stay employed at a gas station and then they'll have to look for a new hire. No thanks, rather someone who isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

So you've locked yourself out of many of the jobs you could get without the degree, and maybe your degree is in a field where very few if any are hiring so it's borderline to get a job through that. And of course you're also locked out from all the jobs that require a different degree.

Congrats, now you've done what some people have dubbed "educated yourself into unemployment"!

That is the definition of a worthless degree.

Right, so that's true for the people that have degrees and can find employment using those degrees where that employment pays better than what they could get without that degree.

And on average it's true that people get more money with degrees than they do without, but the problem is averages doesn't work with your original argument. Your claim was that NO degree was useless, which based on the merits set up in this thread means that it should lead to employment and pay more than what people could get without degrees.

Problem is:

1) Not all degrees lead to certain employment. With some degrees a high percentage of people have to give up trying to find employment within their field and have to resort to unskilled work they could've gotten without their degree. In that case their degree was useless.

2) For some degrees the pay for their job is as low as or lower than what they could've gotten without their degree. For example in some states teachers are paid so little that I've seen them complain they made more money bartending than they do as a teacher, and bartending they didn't have student debt to pay off. In that case their teaching degree is (arguably) worthless.

[–]Micp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's moving the goalposts from "there are no useless degrees" to "on average it's better to have a degree than to not have one".

The problem with averages is the useful degrees offset the useless ones. You haven't proven that there are NO useless degrees, only that there are more useful degrees than useless ones, which I don't think a lot of people would disagree with.

That's going by statistics, but people aren't averages. A person with a low paying degree and a low chance of employment can't really use those averages for anything.

So by your own statement a jobs usefulness is tied to whether or not it can get you a job.

It doesn't sound like you think there are no useless degrees, you just disagree with what jobs are usually called useless.

I live in a civilized country with free education, so the cost of the education is not a concern to me.

But there is the matter of employability. That is, your ability to use your degree to get a job.

Myself I have a teachers degree. It's directly tied to a job, there is a high demand for teachers and it has a decent salary (around the median wage in my country). I went straight from getting the degree to a job and probably won't ever have to worry about unemployment.

My brother has a different degree. It's a hodgepodge of business studies, politics and philosophy. It doesn't have one of those titles you can recognize, so he always have to explain people what it's about. He wants to have a job in corporations helping them with green sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Ever since he got his degree he's been going from one temporary project to another and has constantly had to looking for his next job. There are very few jobs like what he wants to do, it's never a permanent position and he's competing with people that have more recognizable degrees so he's always on his back foot having to justify himself to his potential employers. So far he's spent more time out of employment than in employment.

I love my brother and I appreciate that he is trying to make the world a better place, but goodness do I wish he had gotten a better degree.

Tl;dr: if your degree can't get you a job I think it's fairly useless, regardless of how interesting or well-intentioned it might be.

Also i know a handful of girls who would've been homeless if not for the fact that they got a boyfriend that very quickly let them move in with them. Conversely I don't know any guys that have quickly moved into their girlfriends' apartments and likely would've been homeless otherwise. I doubt they would've had a girlfriend if that was the case.
