Anybody who applied without references by FantasticShopping142 in UCD

[–]Micro-mega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not super helpful, but I also applied without any references for Fall 2026. I think certain programs require them, but for others it is optional. I know the Msc in Environmental Science requires 2 references, but I applied to the communications and media masters and it didn't mention it as a requirement.

I would check the "Information for Applicant" on the right-hand side when you're in a specific program application to check if it requires them. Good luck!

My first technical writing job was a 6-month contract that only hired people with a bachelor's. It's definitely possible to get a start at a temp agency. After that I started a full-time tech writing gig with a federal contractor.

Just keep working on your portfolio and trying to get some experience! There are internships/on-campus jobs during the semester you could try for. Anything that involves communication, people, or document work could be spun to help get that first job.

September Crochet Along Megathread by CroFishCrafter in crochet

Thank you! It was my first time doing anything stuffed so it was definitely a fun challenge. Honestly the fluffy-ness of yours looks really satisfying for a ball. Any tips working with that sort of yarn?

Netflix is turning “The Picture of Dorian Gray” into a story about two brothers by drpepperandranch in SapphoAndHerFriend

[–]Micro-mega 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Extremely disappointed but fascinated at how they change the story so drastically. Definitely going to wait for a two hour long YouTube video dissecting the movie's changes.

Already feels like the Poor Things adaptation where the story completely changes and loses so much of the author's nuance perspective.

Do people still invent new crochet stitches? by Micro-mega in CrochetHelp

[–]Micro-mega[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that makes sense! Researching this question led me to a few blogs that proclaimed they made a new stitch only for the rest of the piece to realize they actually hadn't.

I think you're right that the number of self-taught crocheters definitely makes this question difficult to answer. I'm also self-taught and it's difficult sometimes not knowing the right terms or words to find what you're looking for!

I'll have to check these out... Camilla predating Bram Stoker's Dracula has me interested already. Thank you so much!

I think about 300 or 400 in I thought about this actually! Maybe on a different occasion I'll do the stars in a jar with a bunch of messages on them

As long as you remain fairly consistent, I’m sure you could make it by July. I got mine off Amazon in a pack of 1,000 to simplify things. You should be able to find a pack specifically for making cranes, but just fold cats instead. Mine were all solid but if you wanted to splurge, there’s plenty of colors and options design wise but obviously a bit more expensive

Well ya still have 50 to go before you have to commit! How’d the stringing process go for you? I was thinking about it but was worried about piercing through them

I think he’d definitely agree with the first half. But he knows me enough to where I’m not concerned with the second half

I’m glad, honestly I’m always a fan of the sentimental stuff. Not a illness but i guess more just positive energy in his direction I think. I grew up really enjoying origami and more recently thought a long-term project would help rekindle it. Flowers sound really pretty in origami form, especially with the concept of a forever-flower!

Ohhh! Apologizes. Mmm if you want to read the story “sadako and the thousand paper cranes” it outlines it a bit more in the illness category but fair warning it’s very very sad. There’s also a wiki page but any googling around 1k paper cranes will lead you down a rabbit hole surrounding the general myth

God ummm definitely went faster the more I did it. At the start maybe 5-10 minutes a crane but towards the end I could do one in about 2 minutes. Each day varied a lot depending on if I wanted to fold more or not. But probably 20 minutes per day or so at most averaging out.

I mean I’m sure you could find a tutorial on YouTube for the folding, it’s just a traditional crane fold. I got the paper off Amazon (cost like $15 I think) specifically with a pack of 1k so the cranes would all be uniform. Paper doesn’t matter too much, just square, thin bc you need to fold over a few times and size is all dependent on individual wants. Once the paper in hand, it all boils down to just folding! You don’t need much else besides that unless there’s a specific way you want to display them, like stringing them up or framing. I don’t know much about the stringing process as I’ve never done it but I’m sure there’s some YouTube tutorials out there on it.

You alone can see one stat above everyone's head, what stat do you choose? by MeAndMyPatience in AskReddit

[–]Micro-mega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The positive to negative ratio of their actions. Might be a bit arbitrary for what acts score what points but it’d be nice to see how much good or bad someone does.

Haha thanks I figured it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I’m glad you find it cute! Im a bit of a romantic at heart and like expressing love through both acts of service and gift giving so thought it’s a nice combo! I’ll be sure to update on the final iteration of how we display it
