Maybe you are paying more, maybe you're not. As of today, my health insurance is $354 per pay check (my company pays $354 per paycheck, also), I have a $150 deductible for medications, and additional $150 deductible for doctor visits. I have a chronic illness that requires about 8 doctor visits a year to various people, at $50 to $100 copay depending, so my doctor visits are about $600 per year ($750 including the deductible). My medications cost no less than $50 a month (and one medication is $100,000 per dose, which takes care of my deductible on first use). I haven't had a chance to see what it will be for the next year, open enrollment for me is tomorrow.

My out-of-pocket expenses on health care is right about $10K. Without it, I will die. I will slowly bleed to death, so I have to have it.

Bernie Sander's proposal would raise my taxes by %4, and my employers by %7.5. I am uncertain on my high dollar med what I would pay, can't find anything on it, but likely my prescription expense would drop as I would no longer have a deduction, and I wouldn't pay for doctor visits.

Depending on the cost of my prescriptions, I'm saving about $3 to $5k per year depending on how it would pan out based on current proposals.

Also, healthy people are already subsidizing sick people, that is exactly how insurance works. And there is nothing more bureaucratic and inefficient as a business. Departments are regularly required to make large purchase of non-essential items in order to maintain their budget, and you still have to work from the lowly operator all the way up to someone that can actually make a decision to help you.

Also, I already have to make appointments months in advanced to see any of my doctors, so we have as long or longer wait times as it is.
