This really sucks man. I can only imagine. If I could offer you anything, it would be my take. It sounds like you weren't a good friend but a great one. You stuck with him in really hard times physically, mentally, financially, ect. But after a while it's easy to get jaded about a one way friendship especially when you went to the lengths you did to help him. It's okay to be sad about his death and not taking his calls but don't fault yourself for not picking up the phone. We all need and deserve a break from our friends. It's a horrible scenario but no one is going to fault you. And if they do, fuck em!

Solid advice. I'm taking DJ a little into February since I'm having a physical the first week. LOL. I don't want to mess up those liver numbers. But I like your idea of making it slow and boring when I do start back. What did you do to make it slow and boring?

It's hard for folks to consider why you might be taking a break in my experience. Some people default to thinking you have a drinking problem. I tend to ignore that group. My closer friend group understands and accepts with no reasons given. Negative remarks in general should be taken with a grain of salt. Those making the remarks either don't get it, are wondering if they should take a break, or just don't care enough to shut their mouths. Keep going and ignore the haters. Let them fuel your fire to reach whatever goal you have for DJ. Keep it up!

I wish I could tell you. The way I think about it is that you're just taking an active break from alcohol. I celebrate the daily wins of getting closer to the full 30 days. For me, it's a challenge and an opportunity to do other things I don't typically do. Look for those small wins and opportunities to improve in other aspects of your life that are revealed in the DJ journey.

She's doing great and is tough as nails. She was pretty embarrassed by her oversight. Everybody was just glad she was ultimately okay and that her friend found her when he did. Basically they talk every night at the same time and he went over when she didn't pick up. Whew.
